Nemosine M Nib (Vs My Pilot Metro M Nib)

Are Nemosine's M nibs appreciably wider than those of my Pilot Metropolitan M? (And if they are, how do they tend to write out of the box?) Looking for something wider than my Pilot's Japanese M nib, yet inexpensive, and the Metro-lookalike Neutrino model caught my eye.

Why not go with a pen with a Western/European nib? The nibs in TWSBI pens are German made Jowo nibs, and will be wider than your Metropolitan.

I have a Metropolitan that doesn't get a lot of use. (M)But no experience with the pen you are looking at.

Are you wanting to keep under what, $25-$30? The TWSBI Eco is in that number as is the Lamy Safari.

My guess is that the Nemo medium is wider (perhaps not by much). My other Nemo nibs (I do not own the medium) are on the large size for their label. My 0.8 writes like a 1.1, for example (even broader than the Goulet 1.1).

The nib nook makes the Nemo medium look slightly larger than the Pilot medium (to my eye).

FYI the Nemosine is supposed to be a German (provenance unknown) nib so it is a Western/European nib.

I owned two Safaris, briefly. The triangular grip didn't work for me.

Yes, I saw that but sometimes results can be different. I bought a Safari in M and a Lamy LX in B and they not only wrote extremely close to each other but also to my Metropolitan! Yet they look different in the Nib Nook.

Sure. That's why I told you about my Nemosine experience (with the 0.8). I don't own a Metro, of any size. Just trying to help out as I can.

I have Mets with M nibs and one Nemo with a M nib. And it's a paintbrush compared to the Mets, even though Nemosinew tend to ne dry writers.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Nearly every M nib in the world writes a thicker line than a Metro M. Japanese vs Western nib sizes almost always means the western label is a wider line.

Hi Tvradio,

I can't do it now, but if it can wait until tomorrow, I can post a writing sample comparing a Nemosine medium with a Pilot Metro medium... I have both... unless someone else beats me to it. :D

That would be great! Thanks.

Nemosine's medium nib is an actual western medium. They're nice and smooth out of the box, but a little on the dry side. I have two Nemosine Singularity(s) and they both wrote drier than any of my other medium nibbed pens. I don't know if there's a difference between their #5 (for the neutrino) and #6 (for the fission and singularity) nibs though, so ymmv..

The Neutrino is actually smaller than the Metropolitan. Check out Goulet for measurements and their nib nook to compare. Also, I suggest you look at the Sheaffer VFM. It looks just like the Metro and comes in (western) fine and medium nibs. The VFM only takes short standard international cartridges though, and I haven't experimented on getting a converter to fit.

Hope that helps 😊

Thanks. I just looked at an SBRE 'shootout' between the Metropolitan and the VFM (which does look remarkably similar to the Metro) and Brown says it's "almost impossible" to fit a converter in the Shaeffer. He said the Monteverde mini-converter attaches but doesn't fit inside the pen unless you only fill the converter with "a few drops" of ink. Also, unlike the Pilot, he was unable to disassemble the Shaeffer - couldn't take apart the nib/feed or the metal ring. I think that would be annoying for me. Results seem good though: marginally wider than the Metro and Brown says it's also slightly smoother.

It's a little interesting that the Neutrino is smaller than the VFM yet takes a converter.

Just to follow-up... "Diesel-Electric" means nothing... it's just my common test phrase when I'm testing a pen. :)

Actually I use a monteverde mini converter with my VFM, I just had to modify it slightly: basically I trimmed the knob section at the back of the piston so that it was the same diameter as the rest of the piston:

It works fine (though it still doesn't hold as much ink as a regular converter).

I prefer to imagine that you are using it to send coded spy messages.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
