Montblanc Meisterstuck 164 Ballpoint Mechanism

Recommended Posts

Just purchased a brand new pen off Jomashop, the mechanism is different from others I have seen. Does anyone know what style of mechanism this is, also the top band only has serial # and doesn't say Germany. The clip says Made in Germany Metal. The middle band says Pix.

I think it's a Meisterstück 164 (classique).

There seems to be a gap where the clip band meets the resin.

Jomashop has a good reputation.

Why did you disassemble your pen? Were you worried about its authenticity?

I see that small gap also. Jomashop has a great reputation but still wanted to compare it to another I own. The mechanisms are different. The other I own is also an older model. Should I be worried about that small gap? I feel like it's authentic, not I'm not an expert either.

You could try checking the snowflake tip that holds the clip in place. Is the tip loose? You could try turning it counter-clockwise and then clockwise to see if the snowflake can be screwed down and the gap closed.

If this doesn't work...

I'd return the pen or have it exchanged.

The gap bothers me.

I bought my meisterstuck 164 from authorized dealer last year.

Interestingly, my pen have the plastic mechanism as well, just like the one in the picture..

It seems like montblanc has changed their mechanism parts from metallic to plastic ones..

Meiers- I went ahead and messed with the clip, it did help the gap a bit but still shows a very small gap that is visible when paid attention to. I may just exchange the pen for another one, I would think that Montblanc would have a great quality control team that would catch things like that.

Pennoobie- I also compared the mechanism to another one that was bought at a local authorized dealer and both are the same. Seems like there going with cheaper material, possible more cost effective.

I wouldn't buy or have kept a pen with that gap between the cap and the clip band. :yikes:

However, if it's been disassembled since purchase then I guess you're stuck with it. :(

I have a couple of Montblanc BP's and have never felt the need to take them apart to see what the mechanism looks like. :o

It looks like it was new and authentic originally. :)

Is Jomashop an authorized MB dealer, and do they offer the MB warranty on new pens?

Jomashop is an authorized dealer. As for the warranty, I am not sure as when you purchase from them the warranty book is never stamped.

I don't think they are an authorized dealer. Check the Montblanc website to confirm.

Authorized or not jomashop will make it right: refund or replace your defective pen.

Yesterday during a visit to a MB boutique, I had a conversation with the sales manager about this very topic. She confirmed that Jomashop is an authorized dealer.

Went ahead and contacted Jomashop, I explained the issue to the representative and was told I would receive an RMA by email for an exchange.

Good outcome. I have had very good experiences buying from them.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
