Fountain Pen Like Pilot V5 Hitechpoint

Hi all,

I absolutely love the feel of writing with Pilot V5 HiTechpoint. But I can't use any ink I want in it. It comes filled with a large quantity and once ink is over, it is supposed to be disposed off. To be sure, it can be opened with a plier and refilled, but that also works only a couple of times before some damage or the other happens.

So I have this question for experienced fountain pen users here who might have used this pen too - which fountain pen comes closest to Pilot V5 HiTechpoint in terms of writing experience including nib thickness (I think 0.5 mm)?? If it is within my budget, I will acquire one. Also, I will have this knowledge with me when I buy pens in future.

Thanks in advance.

Sanjay

Why not just get the version of the Pilot V5 that takes ink cartridges? You can easily find it on ebay by searching "pilot hi-tecpoint cartridge system". These pens should be identical to the ones you mentioned, except they take Pilot ink cartridges, like the ones Pilot makes for their fountain pens. A Pilot ink converter should fit, which will allow you to use whatever ink you like.

Thanks. I just searched. Pilot V7 hitech point is refillable. Not V5. Is the tip and writing same as V5? If so, I want it. If someone knows, please answer. If not, I will just buy and try it.

Here is a review of the Pilot v5/v7 cartridge system.

https://www.penaddict.com/blog/2015/2/5/pilot-v5-hi-tecpoint-cartridge-system-roller-ball-pen-review

I've never used the v5/v7 myself, but my understanding is the rollerball is virtually identical (i.e. a needlepoint-style rollerball). When I do an ebay search, I get both v5 and v7 versions, and most of them are sold from South-East Asia and Japan. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I saw the review. Now I need to figure out how to fit Con - 20 into the pen. I will figure it all out and use it sometime. If you have more info, let me know. Anyone else too, give whatever info you have on this. Thanks again.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
