Info About 144, Please.

A young man in+ ton contacted me about purchasing his pen. All he knew about it was that it was a Mont Blanc. When we met and I got to actually see the pen it was a 144. Snap cap gave it away. My only problem was that I always thought that the 144 was the same size as the 145 and the only difference was the cap mechanism. But when I compared it to my 145 90th Anniversary Classique it was smaller. Was it really a 144 or something similar? When did MB stop making the 144? I read somewhere in the FPN that it was in 2004. I didn't buy the pen. The nib looked OK but the pen itself was pretty beat up.

The 144 was slightly smaller than the 145. I can only guess that the cap mechanism and the gold plated band next to the nib tended to be problematic and they were both upgraded when the 144 was discontinued and the 145 was released. I don't know when the 144 was discontinued.

Yes, the modern 144 is a really slim and small pen, about the same length as the historic xx4 pens but much skinnier. In this pen the third from the left is a modern 144 while the one on the far right is a 254.
