M400 Brown Tortoise

Luckykate, what about getting those handheld vacuum cleaners--more work, but problem solved! I totally hear you. I placed an order then cancelled it because some of the pics look very similar to my M400, and I'm not convinced it is *that* different.

 

The brown tortoise is my favorite Pelikan finish, but for the time being I plan I to refuse buying this one out of protest, since they really should do an M600 brown tortoise and I have no need of another M400...

If I were looking for a Tortoiseshell 400, I would look for an older vintage from about 1950 up through the late '80s. I prefer the simpler non pocket jewelry look of them and the nibs though plain 14k gold were a delight to write with. Here's mine from 1985:

Just ordered from Niche pens .. came out to about $330 with overseas shipping -- I'm quite happy with that price.

I'm not sure that the 400 series were produced into the 80s. The 400 itself was produced between 1951 and 1954. Merz & Krell versions were the last in line (after 400NN) and they were produced between 1973 and 1978.
