Budget Fountain Pen

Hello FPN Members,

I am a student who is currently looking for a budget fountain pen under Rs. 250. What would be the best choice?

I am located in Delhi and I have looked through all online stores but alas, every budget pen is either unavailable or over priced. Can anyone tell me where to find one?

Thanks :)

Camlin elegante is an excellent choice. Camlin Trinity also if you like it slimmer

Avoid Parker vectors or betas - the luxor use and throw pens for kids is a better value but the looks are very "kiddish" :P

Which of these will have a good ink flow?

There are some Jinhao (599) and Baoer (Flipkart) pens being advertised, are they any good?

Depends on many things. I'd recommend you buy from ebay.in - much more choice. look for these pens and their reviews:

Jinhao X450

JInhao X750

Jinhao 599

Hero 359

Jinhao 886

Hero 616

Baoer 388

Which factors? I'm a student, so I will be writing on 75gsm A4 sheets or my notebook. I will probably use Quink's black ink.

I was trying to understand how these pen will compare to something like Camlin Elegant, Trinity, Flair Fountain pen or Kanwrite Zephyr? And how the above mentioned pens will compare to each other.

Since you are a student, I think you need to get some long & restless writer.. so in that case Camlin Elegante is the best choice.

Jinhao or Baoer are mostly metal bodied so are heavy...not suitable for long writing...Another superb pen is Airmail 70T which ASA sells in 200/-(if not in stock he will arrange one).

Beside this giving link of two wonderful pens below, check this out:

So, what would be the best choice between following pens for a newbie like myself:

Jinhao 599 (eBay)

Camlin Elegante (Amazon)

Click Falcon Colourful (AsaPens)

Hello, as005,

I know I am pretty late to the party, but I would like to give my 2 cents.

If you could expand your budget by Rs 100 and make it to Rs 350 for a FP, then you have a gem of a workhorse pen known as Platinum Preppy. Available in 3 nib sizes and 5-6 body colours. All can be used with cartridge or made to be eyedropper.

Looking within your budget, as suggested by other members, Camlin Elegante would be a sound and wise choice. I haven't used it myself, but know a person who does and there are no complaints regarding that. You get your money's worth with that pen.

Since it's been around a year since you popped the question here, I would be interested in knowing what was your eventual decision and why so if possible.

Happy Hunting!
