If they came from a reputable auction house (and were listed as genuine Montblanc), you should be able to claim a refund, on the grounds that the items were misrepresented.

That is assuming that they are fakes.

They do look suspicious to me, but, of course, they may be a special/rare model, which I've never seen before.

Could you share the description of these pens, from the auction house?

I hope I am wrong (believe it or not it would not be the first time) but I really fear that I am not.

They are fake 144s and the cap bands on the 144 are three separate bands. The clip is not folded metal but rather forged.

Hopefully others will also comment and better detailed pictures would help.

First, thanks for your help.

I haven't received them yet. As I haven't paid for it yet, I'll just write to them to ask for clarification on its authenticity.

The description is in german:

Montblanc-Schreibset, Füller und Kugelschreiber Meisterstück in sehr guter Erhaltung. Die
Mine muss erneuert werden. Füllfeder gestempelt 4810. In der Original Montblanc-Schatulle.

It says: Montblanc pen-set, Fountain pen and ballpoint Meisterstuck in very good condition. Needs refill. Nib stamped 4810. In original Montblanc box.

You'd think that a German auction house would know about Montblanc fakes!

They looked genuine to me because the ring (albeit being solid) has a distinctive and separate gold and silver parts to it, and there's some engraving on the resin of the barrel of the fountain pen, but I've been looking through the internet and I can't find anything similar (not even fakes!).

Very strange... I thought initially it would be some of their Tribute editions.

Good idea.

The description clearly indicates that they are genuine, so the law is on your side if they turn out not to be so.

Let us know how they reply.

Good luck.

Thank you for your help.

I had a look previously to fountainpen.de and sure enough they weren't there, but I believe they don't have every pen by Montblanc.

I've never seen that design. When you get them, do they have serial numbers engraved on the clip band? Is 'pix' visible on the underside of the clip?

I agree with others here, my money would be on fakes

When you get them, take them to a store & you will get certainty on which to make your claim against the auction house - if you need to.

Based on the cap rings and the nib, they look fake to me. I'd back out if you can.

I think that they are fakes. I am coming to this assumption because of the bands. I have never seen another Montblanc like that before.

Dear all, just to end this topic, I've had confirmation from the auction house regarding these Montblanc:

thank you very much for your message.

Followed by your inquiry, we had a specialist investigating the authenticity of the Montblanc pens earlier this morning.

Unfortunately, we must inform you that your friend was right and that these Montblanc pens are replicas.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience.

Naturally you are not bound to your bid in this case and do not have to purchase the lot.

Again, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Best regards,

Thank you all for your help and be on the outlook for such fakes - even from reputable auction houses :-(

Rgds to all

It does indeed look fake to me at first glance as well. The tone of gold seem incorrect too.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
