Oyster Budo

I have a bottle of MB Oyster Grey and as much as I want to like it, I find it way too dry. I didn't want to waste it and was wondering what I could mix it with that may help with the dryness. I have this ink at my holiday home where I only have a few inks, so the choice is limited. The end result (see below) is 6 parts OG & 1 part Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo. The ink is still a little dry and next time I think I'll try 5 parts OG to 1 part YB.

 

YB is so saturated it dominates OG, hence the 6:1 ratio. I like the colour. Unfortunately the pic. shows the ink as slightly more grey than in reality but it was taken with my iPad on a dull day.

Oyster Grey was my first MB ink, and it took a while to convince myself I really 'needed' it; however, it is my only grey ink currently and I like it.

Good work Newjelan, I think you have proven OG has a lot of potential for mixing!

Here's another attempt to show the colour. My excuse for the poor photo quality is that I'm just "snapping" them with my iPad. However, I don't think they'd be any better if I used a good camera!

I thought of that but as it's 6:1 Oyster Grey, I thought the MB should go first. Not to mention, I love oysters.

I agree. I have Edelstein Amethyst but it's at home in Australia while this ink is in my holiday house in New Zealand. I'll endeavour to post a basic comparison next week.

Yeah oyster budo does actually sound better and having oyster first signifies it's the adjective and budo is the noun, that being the principal colouring.

Nomenclature should also depend on which word out of Yama and Budo is 'Crimson Glory' and which is 'Vine'; it may be that you have Yama or Budo Oyster...

 

I have Pelikan's Amethyst and I think it is a noticeably darker and more saturated, richer purple. However, the similarity is definitely there, particularly with the Bordeaux undertones. I was thinking to do a similar mix to Newjelan's but with a pink, and now I might try Amethyst instead!

Below is a comparison between "Oyster Budo" and Edelstein Amethyst. Amethyst is darker and more saturated. However, the difference isn't quite so stark with the initial use of "OB" (see the writing just above Amethyst). OB is still very dry and next time I'll use slightly more Yama-Budo.
