No engraving means the pen looses identity and origin. While I understand this pen has a more streamlined look. Maybe some suggestions for how subtle the engraving could be or its placement., will be helpful.

I like an engraving and I would like it to say "made in India" or something similar on the pen body. It works for vintage Parker and Sheaffer and it will work for your pens as well.

I think you can do branding nearnear the lip of cap.. Where actually the Centre band comes... Small typewriter font..

Thus will make the pen without the cap still neat..

To me, putting the branding near the cap would do away with the smooth transition from pen body to section that so characterizes this pen. I would rather see it further down on the pen to keep the section as smooth and spartan as posible.

Agree with on the cap. How about around the bottom of the cap going around it, similar to Franklin Christoph pens. As was said, small typewriter style.

I quite like the Asa branding so any sort of branding will be fine in my books. I do think branding the cap and also the optional personalised engraving will be too busy though.

I totally agree to this. The pen needs to proudly display it's maker's identity and where it is made. The year it was made will also help in identifying the pen.

Mayve something like this - the writing is quite fine - but smaller

This is similar to what I was hoping, only the fonts could be smaller. Edison Pen Co. does very subtle engraving on their pens which is not in your face. There are several example of high end pens with barrel engravings on them like Conway Stewart, Aurora and I think it gives the pen a very classic appearance. But the font size should be smaller and the typeface could be more formal rather them monotype corsiva which would also make it more legible when small. For example, engraving below could be smaller. (Image taken from here)

The logo you have, as in the image below also looks good to me without of the monotype corsiva font used for the logo in the image above (Vaibhav, I hope you don't mind me using your photo here):

Some of the layouts I can think of are:

------- ASA Pens --------

Nauka, India 2015

ASA Nauka

-------------

India 2015

2015 ASA Pens India

-------- Nauka ---------

('India' and '2015' should be in a smaller font)

If you choose to do the branding on the cap where the cap band goes, it would look best if done in a single line around the circumference, as done by Franklin-Christoph, imo.

I don't like in-your-face branding. There's no need for it to be big for a pen to be identifiable. Plenty of pens have discrete engravings around the cap without it getting in the way of the overall design (Pilot, TWSBI, Pelikan, etc. etc. etc.). For me this pen isn't about (forgive me for saying this) the brand, it is about the pen's design. I'll probably be ruffling feathers by saying this, but I personally I find ASA's brandings as subtle as a neon sign. If branding is so important a place a lot of manufacturers always include personal markings is on their nibs. I realize this might be a little more costly, but if business is running well, and brand identity is so important...

I have got some excellent suggestions...thank you each of you for your ideas. Let me work out the best or a few of them, to arrive at the best.

Thank you Steve for completely summarising all options.

Thank you...marking on nibs, clips etc are being considered. But I may not be able to do it for Nauka, but surely in future.

In my previous post, I don't mean to push my opinion on others.

Many people who have ordered the pen have chosen to not have any engraving and it is up to the manufacturer and the buyer to come to a consensus on this for their specific order.

My suggestion was just to give a few ideas on how the stock engraving could be for those who choose to have it.

Hi,

I am new to FPN but have been a prior customer of ASA. I am excited about what Joshua and Subbu are doing and looking forward excitedly to see how the final pen shapes up.

I have placed an order already and hope to have the pen in hand soon.

Regards,

Prithwijit Chaki

I like S_T_E_V_E 's suggestion for wording:

ASA Nauka
---------------
India 2015

It has all the important details without the word "pens" , which is self-evident. This allows a more minimalist look in whichever font.

Just my tuppence :)

KEEP CALM AND BOOGIE ON!

SILENCE IS GOLDEN, BUT DUCT TAPE IS SILVER.

This has already been used in most of the ASA pens. So it's not really my original idea.

I like it the best too for similar reasons.

Just placed my order for a clip-less Blue-Black pen with a JoWo nib. Engraving of brand information was assumed. Otherwise i might have requested some engraving. I do not mind my Neponset to be devoid of branding on the pen body simply because it exists on the clip (IIRC...).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
