New Pelikan Souverän 600 Pink Ladies Collection Special Edition.

Ever since my childhood I've been the guy who wears pink, so I love the idea of having a pink pen; plus the m600 is the size that suits my hand best. What bothers me about this one is that it doesn't feel modern. I would have done a charcoal grey cap and section with rhodium trim and more of vibrant shade of pink for the stripes. This photo is not of me (it might as well be as I would totally rock something similar with an equally scruffy look and slightly messy hair haha) but is the general color scheme of what I would have loved to see for this pen.

I love this look. I know a few guys who totally rock the various shades of pink from baby pink to the deepest magentas and everything in between. I love a fuchsia shirt with a grey suit (a buddy of mine wears this and he is very manly - yum!! ) so I am totally digging the colour scheme you are suggesting. I personally love it's current incarnation, but I would purchase exactly what you are describing too.

It's really hard to destroy such a successful design just by colour... Pelikan achieve that.

Plenty of us don't live in North America! Yes, I realise this pen will go down a storm in places like Japan.

And my distaste is nothing to do with "political correctness", which is trite, meaningless and long since discredited as a counter-criticism.

It's an interesting feeling, I like how it looks, though I probably wouldn't buy it. On the subject of pink pens - I've been eyeing the Sailor Millecolore Pink, which I find considerably more appealing. I think Pelikan's choice in pink is just a bit too vibrant. Though it isn't for me I respect the design, it's very bold.

It is interesting to see the reaction that this pen is getting and I've enjoyed reading the discussion thus far. I posted news of this pen to my blog once it came out and unlike anything I've published before, my stats show that the Pink M600 post took off in Japan and Taiwan. It was all over Japanese twitter accounts, none of which I could read. I wonder if those consumers see this in a different light.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

I'd be curious to know whether those tweets were from men or women....

I'm not at all surprised the pen would be popular in Japan, given the popular culture of anime and manga, Hello Kitty, and those crochet monsters (of which I forget the term).

I could definitely go for this shade of grey/pink.

Anything much lighter would make me think of the 80s. And I do prefer the rhodium trim over the gold. It would be nice if they came out with an M400 size, which is what I'd prefer.

I'm surprised by the type of comments about the color. I understand some "manly men" will avoid anything that would make them appear too "girly". I wonder if it is also a regional thing too. My husband has no problems wearing something pink.

Edited: To remove the photo. Had no idea it was so HUGE when I replied from my phone this morning. Now that I'm on the computer, I can see how HUGE it is. So I snipped it from this post. You can scroll up to view the pic. I hope this helps those who find it annoying to load a thread with too many large redundant photos.

Exactly what I said in my post (#34). Have you seen those white, gold and pale pink frou-frou wedding pens they sell there? Really popular; really tasteless.

We should wait and see how this pen really looks. These photoshopped official pictures from the website and catalogues never show the true colours. I noticed that with many pens in the past.

Sounds good! Sounds like one I would not mind breaking down to purchase. I have both the red striation M800 and the green striation. I have been looking for something special from Pelikan to break down and acquire. The color sounds just what I would be interested in. Hope they o.k. showing a picture of it soon. I want to fall in love....before I purchase one.

I love this pen!!!! But why they had to call it Ladies pen? Are they still stuck in the past century? Do they want to put me off buying it, coz I am not a lady? But never mind, real men wear pink, so this is now on my wish list.

They may be tasteless to you but don't underestimate the influence of Manga and kawaii. This pen fits perfectly in their kawaii culture and I can see why they may like it. Unlike anglo-saxon culture IMO Japanese culture is less obsessive about infantilisation. There is nothing wrong with that. After all, creative person is just a child that survived.

The Japanese angle is fascinating. And yes, it really is kawaii, isn't it, though to qualify properly tbe box really needs kittens on it, or white lace, not the black corset ties!

Anyway... I've ended up putting it on my Christmas present wish list. I didn't really think I would!

Too many pens, too little time!

My Dad was the most manly man I've ever known and he wore pink dress shirts, ties, golf shirts without hesitation...because he liked the color pink and it looked good on him. My granddaughter wouldn't wear pink if you paid her. OTOH, my grandson loves pink and the pink Snoopy fountain pen I gave him.

Times change. While I can understand Pelikan's marketing department taking this approach, I think they made a mistake. Many men like pink. Many women don't. Pens should probably be marketed gender neutral in this day and age.

I won't be buying this pen because of its Pepto Bismal leaning color. A paler pink and perhaps a grey cap would have been pretty cool though.

ETA: regarding the box...can't quite figure out what they were aiming at. Unusual, to say the least.

Stunning pen! I'm into it. Not impressed with the gendered marketing and ridiculous corset-inspired box, though. Can we all just get over preconceived notions about gender? I own 10 Pelikans, none of which were specifically marketed to me as a woman, and I've lived through it! There's no need to label a pink pen as being for ~ladies~. Just sell a pink pen and then women won't feel pandered to and insecure men won't feel that their masculinity is threatened if they have it!

Oh my! I just got an email about this pen and I am amazed at the volume of negative responses :( Certainly I knew it was a bit of a niche offering, and did find the "ladies pen" a tad silly. On the other hand, I adore bright pink. I collect Barbies, adore Hello Kitty, and love Glam Rock. Back in the 90's, I rode motorcycles and always wanted my bike painted bubblegum bright (none of the Mary Kay Cadillac pastel, thanks).

Marc Bolan (RIP) would have approved - my avatar pic is a good example. A rollerball version would be so awesome for signing autographs.

But to each, his/her own. Rock on!

KEEP CALM AND BOOGIE ON!
