Kelly Green is stunning and fresh green ink. I love the color but I dislike the fact it causes massive nib crud and creep. Some may say - oh, it's ok, just clean your pen and enjoy the writing. However for me nib creep prooves the ink isn't fully stable. I know a lot depends on the nib but still these pens weren't used for the first time and only Kelly Green's crystallized on feeds / nibs rthat fast (1-2 weeks).

I admit it has some aesthetic appeal but be warned and don't use this ink in vintage celuloid beauties.

I did like the sample of Kelly Green I tried. An Irish shamrock green, imo.

I ended up getting Apple Glory and Meadow instead though. They just appealed to me more.

I never had any yucky problems in my pen I used it in.

WOW...that nib crud is impressive!!

 

Great review Vis. I'm more a fan of dark green inks but this is perhaps the nicest looking light green I've seen.

I tried Kelly Green a couple of years ago, and found it was too light to really be legible. Really disappointing -- it's got amazing shading.

Maybe in a broader nib where more ink gets put down on the page?

And hey, at least the nib crud matches the pen. BTW, it has to do with a particular yellow dye which is why some of the Diamine inks suffer from the problem.

 

Anyway, have you compared it to C-R?

I've had Kelly Green in a number of pens now, never seen nib crud.

If you have a dry nib it will be very light, but in wet pens it comes out dark enough to be perfectly legible. Plus... how to resist that splendid shading.

For me, this is one of the difficult inks, together with Diamine Meadow.

 

The ink shades too dramatically and unsuitable in fine and drier nibs (my Pilot 74f, fm). It seems to dislike papers: there's a layer of barrier to prevent it from being absorbed (too quickly). The appearance on Rhodia with fine dry nibs is very very light, too light to be legible and tidy.

 

If Diamine could come up with an ink with this colour (and Meadow) and not so 'runny', legible enough, in fine dry nibs, I'd be very happy.

 

(I had to add Kodak photoflo to get the appearance and legibility I want)

 

In a Lamy 1.1, the shading is subdued and more solid lines are produced.
