Eighty Four Sepias

Brown is my favourite color. I use it on daily basis.

It took me a lot of time to make this comparison. Well, to be honest, it's still niot ready and there's quite a few mistakes, but I thought that if I won't post it soon, I'll never do that.

So please, excuse me for all the mistakes and uneven number of inks in different categories.

Let's take a look at them.

Summary

I like summaries - they mean I'm done with pasting imageshack links.

I like most of sepia toned, brown inks. Well, with few exceptions (Terre de Deu, Rustic Brown, Francesco Rubinato sepia, De Atramentis Coffee and Sepia Brown).

The inks I enjoy most are

  1. Lie de The - J. Herbin
  2. Brown - Sailor LE (if you have a bottle and don't use it, let me know, I'll buy it from you)
  3. Hazelnut Brown - Graf von Faber-Castell
  4. Pinie - Octopus
  5. Chocolate - Private Reserve
  6. Walnut - Noodler's
  7. Brooklyn Brown - Noodler's
  8. Cigar - Pen & Message
  9. Ina-Ho - Pilot Iroshizuku
  10. Ancient Copper - Diamine

So pretty..... Thank you for making this! Now there are a few more browns to add to my list. I'm going to need some bottles of Noodler's Golden Brown and Kiowa Pecan.

Amazing presentation, this is so drool-worthy!

I was just telling a friend last night that I probably had enough inks. I think I was wrong.

Yesterday was I thought my "windfall" when I received Bung Box's PIANO MAHOGANY, ESPRESSO, KABAYAKI of the Hamanko eel & Mandarin Orange but THIS is the "MOTHERLODE!" I want to "wrap up" in them! (Perhaps I could experiment with substituting a handwoven woolen coverlet for the kitchen towel.........) This was almost as much fun as when I had 4 rooms of my house painted using similar colors. One got to use 4 colors between picture & chair molding, woodwork & remaining wall areas. Those rooms always felt warmer & more comforting to me in cold weather even I was forced to keep the thermostat at minimum setting.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection. I can see why they would represent favourites.

This was an amazing amount of effort. Thanks for doing it (even if a lot of the inks are not what I would call sepia) because it helps to see them all together.

Of course now I have a bad feeling that there are going to be more brown/sepia inks in my future....

Thanks so much for this comparison. Brown and reddish-brown inks are among my favorites too. Amazingly, one of my current favorites, OMAS Sepia, is absent from your incredible array.

Your hard work is appreciated.

Thank you so much for posting these comparisons, visvamitra. It truly has to be an astonishing amount of effort to generate and scan them all, much less acquire 84 samples of likeminded inks! These are all quite beautiful and unique in and of themselves. You make me want to ink up a pen with some of those luscious browns or sepias!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
