How does it get to be that light a color though? Now I'm tempted to write something in Perm Blue and see what happens when I hit it with water.

I see that somebody else has had issues with the perm black. Have not play tested the perm blue in water yet. Do have means to do so, so I might tonight.

Don't get it on your carpet.

And please report back.

Nuts! I would have put the sample in Post 35 (above) under the faucet. Too late; it's gone. :P

Still holding my breath for an answer from Montblanc about the iron-gall question. German - yes, efficient - no.

Um...see post No. 32, above. Straight from the horse's mouth.

I bought one bottle of each of these. I didn't know they have iron gall. I haven't seen any color shift with time, but now I'll look for it.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Montblanc replied to my query regarding Iron-gall:

"Dear Mr. Wilken,

Thank you for your inquiry and for visiting our website. It would be our

pleasure to assist you.

No. Our inks do no contain iron gall, as it can be very damaging to the

metal and cause clogs in the ink feeding system.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Ally

Okay... repeated re-edits here while I am on the phone with Montblanc New York City. Here is what I've learned.

Montblanc is in a major reorganization, part of which is closing down the New Jersey corporate offices, and moving "customer service" to the Texas facility. Even bigger, Montblanc NA is downsizing and moving to New York City, people are being laid off, and those who remain are moving to Richmont's building in Manhattan. When I phoned New Jersey on February 23, I spoke to a customer service person there, who today is an unemployment statistic.

So the conflicting New Jersey and Texas information remains. I expect New Jersey didn't have their heart in providing well-researched answers leading up to the lay-offs, but I will phone Texas anyway just to eliminate any doubt when they open in 30 minutes.

Anyway, this further explains the recent change of Montblanc leadership, and I guess Montblanc's absorption even deeper into a more monolithic Richmont.

Okay, here it is from Texas by telephone:

At 10:00AM, Crystal took my call. I asked to speak with Ally, but she was already on a customer service call. Crystal asked what my question was, specifically. I explained the conflict and where the information came from and to whom it was given (Leon and me). She said she will make enquires and put me on hold. When she came back on, she said the New Jersey information was correct, that is: The permanent inks continue to use iron gall. I asked for her name, thanked her, and said goodbye.

I really do believe personal contact by phone (if not face-to-face) is still the best way of getting what you want.

Thanks Fred, to be on the safe side I would rather not use the Permanent Ink in a Grail Pen. But it is fine for my Lamy's with the necessary pen hygiene.

Thank you for the effort.

I have no problem using inks with reputation for particulate matter in pens that are easy to clean and flush, like modern Pelicans or Auroras. On the other hand, I won't use Private Reserve Bubble Gum Pink - in anything.

All my pens are very promiscuous in their fountain pen ink preferences. They get along with:

1. Waterman

2. Pilot

3. Caran d'ache

4. Pelikan

5. Graf von Faber Castell

6. Montblanc

MB Midnight Blue (IG formula) is in at least one pen on ink rotation and I have not had any problems with it either. That includes Gold nibs and steel nibs.

I've been using MB's iron gall blue black for many years in my 149. I just periodically refill it. I don't even flush with water. Never had a problem.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
