Tears Of Clown - Bung Box

Some time ago Tinjapan send some Sailor LE ink to Sisnistral1 who, in turm, sent the rest of the samples to me. Thank you both of you :)

Sailor is my favourite ink maker. Sadly their most interesting inks are available only in Japan or from internet retailers. Getting ink from Japan is expensive.

Tears of Clown looks interesting. I like it.

This looks like a dead ringer for R&K Alt-bordeaux. Or is it a bit redder? Great review as usual, though I miss the alternate color swatches.

@jason - this weekend I should have some tiime to scan it and post some comparison.

@saskia - my scanner tends to add some pinkish tones to violet and red scans although in daily light the scan looked pretty close to my notebiook content.

@C - there is some sheen, but in this particular combo (pen, ink, paper) not so much. Just some sparkles.

How does this ink compare to the old formulation of Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses? Really loved the old formulation, but alas it's gone.

This ink was sold as their Penman Ruby comparison. Saskia may still have some real Penman Ruby. I did a comparison and this one sheen better and flows better. I loved it... and then Red Cashmere came to me. Alas, Red Cashmere is more difficult to obtain than this beautiful ink, so if you love Reds with sheens, buy this ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I just received a sample of this ink today and surprisingly I don't really care for it I'm not seeing any drastic shading or sheen that others speak of. I am hoping that when I try it in a pen with a broader nib I will be proved wrong.

Thanks for this very comprehensive review.

Tears of Clown is an ink I've been interested in for awhile.

shading and sheen vary greatly depending on what paper you use. The less absorbent the paper (rhodia, clairefontaine, vellum) the better it looks, vs cheap paper.

This kinda reminds me of the discontinued Sailor ink Grenade. I have a bottle I'm hoarding and using very little of. Tears of the Clown is beautiful!

A year ago I balked at this color and now I'm drawn to this hue and ordered it a few days ago. Color preference is such a curious, liquid thing.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
