Went With An Ef Nib

I also have an EF nib on my Carbon Steel LeGrand. I agree with the previous poster: my EF nib has a lot of character; narrow vertical line and a slightly broader horizontal line. It's the reverse of how a stub nib behaves.

Some EF nibs can get boring as the ultra fine line start looking like ball point, but I love the Montblanc EFs with the unique cut that give it the narrow and precise down stroke and slightly broader side stroke for some subtle line variation. Their EF nibs have a lot of character.

I am a massive EF user too. Congratz on all your beautiful pens. My 149 75th anniversary is amongst my favourite pens.

I actually wonder, do most broad users just write block letters? I own 2 broad nibs and find it very difficult to go cursive with it due to the thickness of the nib. I'd love to see how others do cursive writing with a superbly broad nib..That is the main reason why I like EF more than any other nibs, I can actually write beautiful spencerian/cursive with it.

You can write cursive with a broad nib. The text below was written with a 146 with a B nib. The notepad's size is A5.

However, I do think that full pages of text look better when written with a finer nib. I find broad nibs better suited to short notes rather than long texts.

I am surprised, based on the picture, that that is considered an EF nib. My 146, mid 1990s, is also EF and the nib is much, much narrower than that one.

 

Mine looks closer to those shown in Sampanel's post above. They must have changed quite a bit over the years.

If you're talking about my picture above, that's not an EF. It's a B. I was answering Mrchan's question, whether cursive with a broad nib was possible.

If I understand correctly, the nib in the original picture is an M. I take it the picture was made before sending the pen out for the nib exchange.
