Went With An Ef Nib

So I have a 149 anniversary edition 1924 with MOP in rose gold and a 146 anniversary edition 1924 in the barley finish with rose gold and MOP, both of which I sent back to Germany for the NIBs to be exchanged out for EF ones. They originally came with Med nibs, but I guess I'm a stickler for neatness and precision and I just can't get used to the amount of ink that comes out of the med nib. I hope I will be satisfied with the results. I know I am among the minority in doing so since I have been told most prefer med nibs or broader. I guess to each his/her own since it is my money.

Both are gorgeous pens. IMO you made the best choice possible by going with EF nibs. That makes two of us who do it right! :-)

Very pretty pens.

I prefer the ef/f nibs as I use my pens for writing /notes also I've found that the ef has a little line variation that I haven't found on my medium nibs

Guessing EF (or smaller) are not that popular among the MontBlanc user base?

It would be neat to have % of nib sizes in the wild.

EF in montblanc land is like F with other european brands and like M in japanese nibs, You do read more about people going with B, BB, or Obliques even O3B than someone going EF.

Gorgeous pens in any case, would love to have either one in any kind of nib ;), I regret more and more not taking the seller up on ebay on a second chance offer since it didn't reach his reserve, would've gotten a 146 75th anniv. rose gold for a very good price, but that was just after i bought a LOT of MB stuff already.

I too prefer the EF nibs and sent in my Heritage 1912 to have an EF. I could not be more thrilled with it.

Did the same with the 90th Anniversary 149. The nib is great although the 149 is to large for me and has not had much use. Hoping the 149 will grow on me.

Enjoy your beautiful new pens.

I have a 146 in F and one in EF. To my mind the extra fine has more character and interest in the writing.

I have two EF nibs from Montblanc, both are 149 nibs.

"IMHO, the only advantage of the 149 is increased girth if needed, increased gold if wanted and increased prestige if perceived. I have three, but hardly ever use them. After all, they hold the same amount of ink as a 146."FredRydr, 12 March 2015

This is so beautiful - enjoy your wonderfully precise and gorgeous EF nib. It's a great choice and it seems like all the "EF" fans are coming out :)

Here's my 149 with the EF nib that I so enjoy, thanks to some great advice here on FPN:

Glad to see so many EF lovers. I have changed the majority of my MBs into EF nib to suit my daily use, and I love them all !!!!

I have a 146 Citrine that has an EF nib, but for my 149's, all are B or broader. I do intend to get an EF nib on my next 149 as I have been using the Citrine quite a lot and find that I do like it. Pens in use today: 146 Citrine EF and Pelikan M800 O3B.

I too am an EF user, and even then I've had to have a couple of (European) EF nibs reground a bit finer.

Beautiful line variation.

Some EF nibs can get boring as the ultra fine line start looking like ball point, but I love the Montblanc EFs with the unique cut that give it the narrow and precise down stroke and slightly broader side stroke for some subtle line variation. Their EF nibs have a lot of character.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
