Top 4 Diamine Inks

Rocket1

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm thinking of placing an order with Diamine for a few inks. They have a very large selection of inks therefore I am not sure what to go for, so I thought I'd ask you lovely folk for your recommendations! I would like a couple with awesome sheen and shading, but after that, it's up to you!

Thanks for your help,

Rocket

Mediterranean is a nice Kon-Pekiish looking medium blue with brilliant shading and is a staple in my rotation.

I have read the most popular Diamine Ink now is Ancient Copper. You have to decide if you like that kind of color or want to stay with blues and blacks etc.

Best thing is probably to look on Goulet Pens and use the ink compare feature available. It is very thorough and a great help. You can even compare Diamine inks to other mfg's ink to get a better idea of matches and contrasts.

They have put a great deal of work into it.

Sheen on Sherwood Green is divine. The color is great, too: rich, dark green that can easily be a daily-use ink. In fact, for me, it is!

Midnight

Red Dragon

Mediterranean Blue

Saddle Brown

And for the bonus point, Sherwood Green. You can get five 30ml bottles before the shipping goes up to £10

I'll say based on my experience with Diamine Jet Black that it is an amazing ink to use with great flow and a nice deep, black colour.

Jet Black - a very wet ink for a dry pen

Chocolate Brown - well behaved, nice colour - you can almost smell the chocolate

Ruby Red - well behaved - red indeed!

Denim - slightly wet but not as much as Jet Black

I only have 3 Diamine inks:

Florida Blue and Tropical Blue (which I understand is what Florida Blue used to be called) I like it so much I must have bought it again when they changed the name.

Really lovely ink, color and properties.

Orange - I love this color. I have it in a pen with a Chinese calligraphy nib and the color just jumps off the page, it's so bright and happy. There is little to no shading to it.

Your flag suggests you're in the UK. I'd consider ordering from thewritingdesk.co.uk if that's the case. They have swabs on their site.

My personal favourites would be Wild Strawberry - not much shading but dries with a darker outline around the vibrant red; Blaze Orange; Majestic Blue - famous for its sheen (and slow drying time) and Meadow Green - if green ink in correspondence is an indication of madness, Meadow is the gentle kind, not the I'm-going-to-stalk-you-and-kill-your-cat kind that Sherwood Green is.

Wouldn't it be great if Nakaya used TWSBI piston fillers instead of Platinum cartridge converters?

Ancient Copper and Matador. Get it from Cult Pens. Cheaper than Writing Desk, and if you order it early enough in the day, you can get it next day. Get 2 80mL bottles and you get free delivery too.

I'd go for Midnight (second choice: Denim), Oxblood (second choice: Monaco Red), Green-Black and Grey. I love Ochre and Orange but hate the mess they leave on the pen. Another possibility is Macassar (if you need a brown), which I prefer to the redder Chocolate Brown. Sargasso is fascinating but I have to dilute it to keep it under control.

Majestic Blue is great for sheen. I like Presidential Blue as well. And Salamander.

Buy 5 x 30ml from Cult Pens to get over £10 for free delivery.

My current favourites, in alpahabetical order -

Asa Blue

Damson

Eau de Nil

Misty Blue

Twilight

Not much sheen there I'm afraid so swap one for Majestic Blue.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
