Won A No.225, What To Expect When Here(?)

Received it today, little smaller than I expected. Also I'm guessing the piston doesn't go in/out rather you just simply unscrew the blindcap til you see yellow then screw it back.

Apparently it wasn't de-inked, got a gob of blue ink on my hand.

so... guess going to give it a water rinse first then decide on what to ink it with.

edit: Taking forever to get that blue-black out, already went thru half a water bottle.

What do you mean in/out? like a syringe? I think most piston pens if not all you unscrew the blindcap and then you keep on going in the same motion and that makes the piston go down towards the feed, then you screw everything up and it goes back up while drawing up ink.

Yea I'm noticing that, just taking forever to get the blue/black out of the pen. Still running light blue as I take in and pump out nearly half a water bottle full already.

:/ Inside of the cap is all dirty (using a q-tip on it but I might actually have to soak the cap)... not much good that super-sonic cleaning did the seller.

edit: just pulled out a strand of someone's hair in the cap.

Finally cleaned up, once I figured out I could unscrew the section away from the piston portion and then clean out the ink in between the section nipple and the end of the piston opening, as well as forcing water back thru the nib by putting my thumb on the intake hole when I squeeze water back out.

Loaded it up with Noodler's black eel (which should help lubricate the piston), nib is definitely soft, not flexy just soft, no scratchiness in either direction, and flow keeps up if I were to quickly scribble across the page, a little on the fine side without being too wet so the black eel shows up ever so slightly brown (like it normally does with drier pens), but it doesn't have any breaks in the stroke or flow.

I wonder if I can slide the nib off the section so I can clean out any possible fibers in between the nib and feed.

Edit: Guess so, if mine counts as a 'smooth' version of a 220.

Seller's Response:

Dear karlblessingion

Thank you for communication.
A check is no use and is sorry.
After having cleaned a writing brush, I attach ink to check a nib.
I think that it is its cleaning mistake.
I am sorry to bother you.

I think I'm going to have to let the nib/feed housing soak over night even if I make the water run clear, if I patt down the nib to dry it it's still leaking some blue, so I think there's some old ink caked up in the feed/etc. The piston/inkwell is clear now though.

Writing pretty good after soaking it for a while and flushing out the section with a bulb.

Anywho, a shot of the nib area. http://static.karlblessing.com/pens/montblanc225/1.jpg

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
