Since my first fountain pens were the Sheaffer cartridge pens, my first ink was Sheaffer Skrip in black, blue, blue-black, peacock (miss that one), green, and red cartridges. When I branched out to Waterman pens, I used Waterman cartridges, and liked them fine, too. (At the time, cartridges were easier to find than bottled inks.) I've just lately started using some of the Diamine inks, and I have no complaints about any of them.

I like Sheaffer/skrip inks!

Red is my go-to red ink. It's the most primary of the primary colors. The closest I can find to the color of the Ristra in my photo there. And their's is my favorite blue/black too...

I like their vintage inks too, which you can find on E bay from time to time:

Persian Rose

Watermelon Red

Washeable purple, brown, blue

And, richard binder told me once that THE safest ink for a demonstrator is the vintage Skrip Washeable blue...

If you include carts there are quite a few out there... peacock, king's gold, pink...

WOW, Skyppere - beautiful collection you have there! I'd love to see the Melon Red. :D

They were the first fountain pen ink I ever used.

Best regards,

Chris

Do they sheen?

No, they're not that saturated.

Sheaffer's Skrip Writing Fluid (the successor to ink!) has always been good and dependable. They're still producing effectively the same thing that they have for as long as anybody can remember, steadfastly ignoring all the trends in the industry. Sheaffer haven't introduced more colors. They haven't made their inks more saturated, or waterproof, or fast-drying, or glow-in-the-dark. They haven't put their inks in a fancy-shmancy bottle and doubled the price. So, basically, there's not much to talk about.

My only gripe is that you can't get Sheaffer carts in bulk at good prices anymore. It's bottles now, or else pay through the nose for the little blister packs of carts. Meh. I never liked carts anyways.

The Old Skrip Blue-Black was the only ink I used growing up. I have the new one, and it's a nice version of a BB. But I find it exceptionally dry, even more so than Pelikan BB.

Sheaffer Brown is actually surprisingly close to ancient copper; it's just missing some of the yellow-ish undertones, but otherwise it's a cheaper and easier to get substitute for me. Also it never has nib crud. The only time I've ever gotten a Sheaffer ink to sheen was in a Pilot Parallel 6mm right after filling.

wastelanded - I'm interested in all their colours aside from the blue-black, it's too grey for my liking. I'd rather mix my own custom blue-black.

Aurko - minus the nib crud would make it a perfect substitude! The only way my pen behaves is if I use it everyday, not that I'm complaining:) I love AC.

My next ink purchase would definitely be some Sheaffer Skrip bottles.

Nib crud, at least for me, generally doesn't affect performance but it's such an eyesore. I've been enjoying Sheaffer Brown a good deal lately., since this post came up. Filled my Ivory Sailor and Sheaffer 330 with it!
