Did This Half Demonstrator Come From Mb?

Hi,

I recently purchased this pen from a MB collector. As you can see, the cap is a transparent demonstrator cap but the body is a stock MB 149. Can anyone comment on whether this kind of demonstrator ever came out of MB like this? Or do you think a previous owner married a 149 body to a demonstrator cap?

 

I will add detailed pictures later, because i haven't my macro camera with me.

It seems like a cap to a full demonstrator with a normal 149 body. I would actually rather this pen over a demonstrator as you don't see the ink everywhere. Nice buy!

Interesting pen, can't wait for detailed photos of the nib, and the gold ring at the piston knob. The clip on the demonstrator cap looks like the "slope-shoulder" form found on vintage 149s. Not sure when the style changed. Pre-1980??

The ring at the piston knob looks like the rounded, slim version that may indicate a pressed in piston mechanism, however the section is the modern version with the separate lip seal. Odd.

Almost appears to be an 18C tri-colour nib, cannot make out imprints.

Fascinating 149, looking forward to more pics.

Did anybody ever establish the origin of the 149 demonstrators? I vaguely remember a suggestion that they may have been prototypes, made available to Montblanc employees?

We have seen the whole demonstrators and those with some black resin parts. Don't recall one like this.

Oh this is an impressive pen. I am not fond of full demonstrators because you can see the ink, but to see the nib without opening the cap, that is fantastic....
