145 Or 146?

How do I determine whether my pen is a 146 or a 145 when I have nothing to compare with?

The nib, from tip to where it disappears into the gripsection is 22 mm. And it seems to be 9 mm at its widest.

Rather than the size, concentrate on the filling system?

146 is a piston filler with a turning knob at the end of the barrel. 145 will screw apart to reveal a cartridge or convertor.

Just to confuse the issue, there is also a 147, which is 146 sized (approx). This will also screw apart, but will have a cartridge holder inside.

Good luck.

Describe the filling system, give the dimensions, etc.

A 145 and a 146 are Very Different, it should not be hard to help you to tell them apart.

Maybe you're thinking of the 144 vs. the 145? As well as what's written above, the 146 is marked as such on its cap ring (i.e., Montblanc Meisterstuck No 146"), whereas the 144 (and I suspect 145) are not.

HTH!

The 144 is a slip on cap, the 145 has a threaded cap and barrel. The 146 is larger than the 144 or 145. The 146 has an ink view window while the 145 and the modern 144 do not. (The 50's 144 is a piston filler that does have an ink view window)

This is a 'signature for good'-pen I believe from the last round, with gold trim. I have read that it was made in both 145 and 146 edition. I thought the last digit was the nib size. As in 146 having a no. 6 nib.

It is a piston filler, threaded cap. I don't have a 144 or 145, so I can't compare sizes. It does not have 146 on the band.

It also has the slitted (is that a word?) ink window.

If you can see an ink window then it's not a 145 as that's a C/C filler not a piston filler.

The ink window appears in the 146 or the 149, but not the 144,145 or 147

They don't necessarily have 146 on the GP band. Only the older versions do.

I have never heard that the numbers 5 and 6 signify the nib size. In fact I always thought the numbers 144, 145 and 146 suggested the barrel size.

Dear Xqmano, if your pen is a piston filler with a visible ink window, and has a threaded cap, you are the lucky owner of a Montblanc 146, one of the finest writing instruments ever produced. The special finish of the "Signature-for-good" just add a bit of charme to this very classic model. Enjoy it in good health.

Thanks for your answers guys. :) much appreciated.

The tines on this one was spread too far apart, but I've tweaked it a little and it starts much better now. Filled it up with MB burgundy red and loving it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
