A 149 Warner Music International Special Edition

Recommended Posts

I've been after an unused 149 forever but have never been able to afford one directly from Mont Blanc. I have just found a special edition one, boxed and unused and wondered if this is something that should/would be worth more than a standard one? It is currently for sale at about half the price of a standard new one that I could buy in England, United Kingdom.

I don't know if this will help, but one of these was on eBay Canada recently, and it sold for $300CDN. That packaging for that one was different than the one you have pictured, however.

Thanks Paul. That seems cheap to me but I'm no expert. I kind of thought that limited editions would attract a higher price. Grateful for anymore help!

Is it a limited or special edition pen?

Is the actual pen identical to a regular 149? i.e. is it only the box which is different.

If you're looking for a cheap 149 and you think the one you've found is in good condition, I'd go for it.

I'm really not sure if its a limited edition or a special edition. What's the difference? The only difference to the pen as far as I know is a small inscription on the pen lid. I have attached the photo of the actual one I will be buying tomorrow all being well. I just want to make sure it's a sound buy. I got it for £210.

Limited Edition (at least to me) implies that only a specific amount of the pen were created. I only consider a pen to be a "limited edition" if it has a stamp that numbers the pen (1555/4810 or something similar).

With that said, that looks like a 149 with a Warner Music engraving. My guess is that the pen was given out to executives or special people within the Warner Music System. It's not a special edition, neccessarily.

Even still, you run into the same issue with the Mont Blanc 145 and the Mont Blanc "Chopin" Both are exactly the same and the Chopin I used to own didn't have any special markings, just a different name.

It was produced for Warner Music in 1995 for them to give to their artists who had been with the label for 25 years. There's an engraved band with the Warner "W" and dates. It's a beautiful set.

The guy just sent a picture of the nib but it appears to be all hold. That's not right is it?

If you mean all gold I don't think it should be. It should be like a normal 149 nib. It might just be a trick of the light though.

You got it for a good price

Just to point out, the pen that sold above, for $300 Canadian, was the 146 version, examine the photo of the nib.

If you purchased any 149 (good condition), £210 (about $330 US) is a good buy, but a commemorative pen, with inscription, in presentation box, with ink? That is an extremely sweet deal.

Congratulations.

Ah. I wondered why a 149 sold so low--it was a 146! I didn't know Warner commissioned 146's as well. Still a sweet looking set though. I was going to bid myself, but thinking it was a 149, and I already had two, I stayed out. Now I wish I did bid.

So, I drove all the way into London to meet the chap selling the pen and it turns out to be a 146 when he advertised it as a 149! He also stated in the advert that it was 'unused' but the feeder was stained with old ink and was out of alignment! ....... When things seem too good to be true, they usually are. Back to the drawing board of finding myself an affordable 149......

Sorry to hear that, robmcdade, especially since you wasted time and gas driving out to meet him. At least you learned a bit more about MB pens today, so it wasn't a completely wasted trip.

By the way ... these pens are far from being a "limited" or "special" edition. These are just corporate gifts ... and there are millions of them on the market. You can get them from many, many companies. What's special about them ... well, its just the engraving ... and anybody could engrave your pens.

From my perspective, any engraving is a huge loss in the value of a pen.

At least at Ebay in Germany, these pens are therefore valued much less than regular pens.

The only corporate gift pens that I know that increased in value are the Montblanc Anniversary 1988 pens (80 years of Montblanc, because Montblanc "changed" its own birthday 20 years later to 2006) and the Constantin Vacheron pens (because they really differed in design)

Good day!

I bought this lot, but he has not arrived yet

Bet at par for 10 minutes before the end. Someone put up, but canceled before the end of the auction. On arrival, let us look what model. :hmm1:

That's too bad AstorS :( It would have been very interesting to see better pics of the pen. Glad the seller stepped up and made a full refund.

A miracle happened! Parcel arrived after 3 + months. :notworthy1:

Again, I paid the seller but lost money on foreign exchange gains. :crybaby:

You're right, this 146 model, M nib size.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
