Best Paper For Fountain Pens

Parker Pen 27

Recommended Posts

Sasha, good to hear! I know I am (we are?) an exception to the flood of fans who adore CF but I don't like it either and practically never use it because I find it just tooooo smooth. I keep on saying like trying to write of a piece of glass. My "creed" or "motto" is the word "texture". I need a feeling when writing on paper. With any pen, especially my 51 or Crest or Toledo 900. Any pen with any ink saves me buying CF papers.

I have a stock of animation paper in the house and I'll have to give it a try-out with my old Watermans. It's thin but pure rag, and pretty smooth. It was made to be seen through and handle a lot of erasing.

An interesting experiment, since it was really made for pencils, but old Disney Paper is rarer than unicorn vellum.

The experiment lasted thirty seconds, and I've been sitting on a (bleep) treasure! It yields a dark, expressive line with no feathering or ghosting. It's amazing. I have a pile of this stuff cut to 4 1/2" X 7" - storyboard panels, and I must bind them into notebooks. Best paper on earth has been sitting in my closet since animation went digital.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but (are you ready?!) I really like a Composition notebook I've found at Walmart by NORCOM. I can see people turning colors and choking on their tea/coffee right now! But, here's why I like it.

I use it for practicing my penmanship and keeping a journal. I'm amazed at how smooth the paper is and, I swear, it's as nice to write on as a Fabriano notebook I bought after reading some good reviews. And, I paid 88 cents for 100 sheets.

I'm not saying there aren't better papers, but for my purposes, I think this is a great deal. And I mainly wanted to mention it in case there is someone looking for decent journal paper at a very reasonable price. If you try it and decide you don't like it, you're not even out a dollar!

It is probably made in Brazil. You can usually get these (and similar) composition notebooks on the cheap at OfficeMax and Office Depot during back to school sales.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
