Non-Fountain Pen Recomendation

Recommended Posts

I began collecting fountain pens when I was in my undergrad and I have fallen in love with Montblanc pens. I have however noticed that from time to time I need to write with something other than a fountain pen (mostly its paper issues). I have been considering buying a ball point Pen to carry around both for my personal use and for when someone ask me to use a pen(as I hate letting other people use my fountain pens). Can you guys recommend some ideas both within the Montblanc family, and if you think I should purchase a nicer cheap pen simply because of the major lack of use it will get. I would probably use it AT MOST once or twice a month if that and that's why I was wondering if spending 300-400 hundred on a Le grand is worth it or if there's something else.

I'm sure a few die hard fountain pen fans must come across this problem now and again

I quite like slightly older MB models, like:

http://www.martiniauctions.com/item/id/_Montblanc_784_Ballpix_ballpoint_in_black__19831.html

They are cheaper than current models, don't have too much of the recognizable look, while still writing like one :)

Thanks.

Yeah I just am having a little trouble paying full price or even near full price for a new ballpoint when it will hardly get used. Unlike my Fountain pens which get used on a daily basis I will spend much more because I know they will get used.

I think the MB Classique is about as close to perfection as one can get in a ballpoint. If they used the same ink as the Jetstream, it would be perfect, but at this point, it is pretty close. MB has changed its ink formulation in recent years and the refills with date code 2014 and later (MB now freshness dates its refills) write smoother and darker than they ever have. A real pleasure to use. I think the size is also perfect, a good balance between heft and pocket ability. I carry one nearly every day, and I am a big Legrand user and 149 owner. I have big hands. You can usually find 164 ballpoints on ebay relatively inexpensively if you buy carefully.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
