Mb Frida Kahlo

I saw a picture of it today. Spindle-like barrel (similar to Humboldt) with a brilliant blue barrel, and white gold overlay on the blue cap. Looks promising. Dedicated to the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo with her signature eyebrows, this pen is intended for release first in Mexico, then the rest of the world.

I thought that pen was released 10 years ago together with the Diego Rivera LE 70pcs each. O; and its champagne gold not white. I got to handele the Diego Rivera 10 years ago at our local pen store just before Montblanc started sprouting boutiques all over the place. I think they also marketed it in the Netherlands because orange is the color of our monarchy.

Hmmm...you can see that they're using the same technology/techniques they're using for the Collodi's cap for the Kahlo as well (or vice-versa). I guess we'll see more and more of this going forward for the LEs and WEs?

:vbg: Yes nice strategy by MB. Use a minimal amount of gold on a pen---> stuff as much colorfull laquer as possible into the design---> refer to it as beautifull 925 gold with intricate patern--> Increase prices twice a year ---> and rake in the profits.:gaah:

not bad but not really my cup of tea

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Why do I never find these pens, this one along with the Eifel and Gaudi, on the MB website? Are they only shown in books at the boutiques when you give the secret handshake. I would love to see all the special editions that are offered each year even if I cannot afford them.

I may be getting older, but I REFUSE to GROW UP!

+1 A section of the official MB website dedicated to these type of writing instruments would be a great step forward.

I think this is intentional - MB knows that part of it's most affluent demographic values exclusivity (i.e., being able to access the newest, most exclusive pens before anyone else) very highly. This exclusivity would be lost by advertising these pens on their website.

That said, it would be nice if they occasionally published a book (or better yet, an e-book) showing their entire collection so that the collectors/enthusiasts would know what is circulating 'in the wild'.

True! Wish I had thought of this business model! :headsmack:

I think both of the pens are exquisite. However, I would not be looking for a pen with any significant amount of gold at this time. I do believe that pens of this quality are a wise Long Term investment (like loose diamonds), but with the price of gold where it is now, I am not sure the appraised value of the pens will exceed the current price of gold.

The design was done the same time as the Diego Rivera (Frida Kahlo's husband) but it will only be produced now.

I think it's lovely, though I probably won't be able to afford it. If I get any MB in the next couple years it'll likely be a Hitchcock - gotta save those pennies... :puddle:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
