Pilot Prera Madness

I'm hoping I don't have to return this to Jetpens. That will be a major bummer, as Ive not even inked it yet and I want to use my new lime green Prera!

I wouldn't remove it either, too risky.

So unless someone else has one to compare sooner I will check it about 4 hours from now, especially since you've got my curiosity piqued.

Edit:

Hopefully one of the other posters on this thread that have them can check them sooner for you.

I just got a lime green Prera as well - came a few days ago. I haven't inked it up yet, but I seem to remember having the same tab on mine. I will check when I get home (in about 2 hours or so).

I just checked both of my Preras (sky blue and the slate gray), and they both have that same tab. I'm not sure what its purpose is, but I think it's supposed to be there.

Thank you so much for checking. I can't think of why it would be there, unless it's some sort of guide. I'll try filling it with water again. The first couple times I tried, when I was flushing it out, it wouldn't any water.

My ivory Prera has it [edt: that tab], too.

NICE manicure, btw---love the color.

Are you sure the converter is pushed all the way into the section? I know it sounds silly and obvious, but mine has to be pushed quite hard before it clicks in all the way.

Thank you. I always told myself I was going to get a "real" manicure one day, but never have. The polish is from WM. LOL

Well, if your Prera has it also, then I'm not going to worry about it and just try to fill it.

I'll double check that. Thank you.

I checked mine and its the puncture for the cartridge.

:headsmack: Thank you ... I hadn't even thought of that!! I don't use cartridges, so the thought never crossed my mind.

Sorry - had to go get a bottle of butane for my microtorch for melting wax... Home now.

Yes, my Prera has the tab. The converter fits over it well - you do need to snug it up. It sucks water just fine.

I'd double check the fit of the converter, and if still no joy, try another converter if you happen to have one (do you happen to have a VP lying around?)

(Edit to correct stupid spelling... )

The "tab" is there to unseal a cartridge when you push it in. The cartridges are sealed by a disc of plastic. The tab pushes on one side of the disc as you push the cartridge in, causing the disc to pivot thereby opening the cartridge.

Edit ... Oops. Already explained.

I wasn't getting the converter set deeply enough, but it took water afterward just fine. I tried it with a a couple inks and it let me know quickly that those inks were NOT to its liking. LOL So, we tried another ... nope, didn't like that one either. The 3rd time was the charm. I used a different brand and it likes that one real well. The first inks were Diamine and the last was Noodler's. I am finding that the fine nib is really fine and may be a bit too fine for me. We'll continue getting to know one another for a while before I start looking for a replacement nib. Nice comfortable pen.

Thank you to all who helped me out.

I wonder if maybe these don't like Diamine? My pink one is heading back to the seller for troubleshooting because I just couldn't get it going, with either the Diamine ink I had planned for it or with the Pilot cartridge. The lime and light blue ones have PR ink in them and are fine, and the yellow one has a Pilot cartridge and is also fine.

At least it gives me a little more time to work on my photography skills - I tried taking a pic of a writing sample with the 3 Preras that work ok, but can't get the focus/zoom right so that you can see the writing in enough detail.

my new like Prera arrived today and did NOT like Diamine ink. I tried more than one and it didn't like either of them. I inked it with Noodler's and it seemed to like that real well. I haven't tried PR yet.

Well, mine *adores* Sailor nano-black - indeed, with that fine nib, it seems almost *made* for that ink. (Good thing, too, as it is one of my favorites.)

This is *so* much better than my expectations! I might just have to get other colors...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
