Pix-O-Mat 4 Color Ballpoint

FarmBoy

Recommended Posts

I was asked to repair a Pix-O-mat 4 color ballpoint. Once apart, I found some clearly bent, jammed, and otherwise not correct parts along with disconnected springs on the inside. I've gotten things sorted out, straightened, reconnected, lined up and I suspect something is missing.

Anyone got a picture or a parts diagram?

I realize this is a long shot,

Thanks

I doubt that you'll be successfull. I haven't seen a diagram or draft of the inner parts so far. And Montblanc never made any repairs on 4-colour-pens but sent them to the manufacturer.

All Montblanc 4 colour pencils and ballpoint pens (from aprox. 1935 untill 1982) were made by Fend. (Fend also made 4 colour ballpoints for other brands and sold many under it's own name.) But as the last Montblanc 4 colour ballpoint pen was made in 1982 the repair sevice ended in 1992 (10 years after the finalization). Fend was located in Pforzhein, Germany, but went out of business in 1999.

So neither Montblanc nor Fend can help you.

If the internal design was the subject of patents, search the online European patent records for Fend. You may have to determine the actual corporate name of Fend, first. You might be lucky.

Don't forget the Montblanc 4 colour pencils made by Bossert & Erhard. And perhaps Heugel also worked for Montblanc.

I search for all pens and informations made in Pforzheim, e.g. Sarastro, Fend

I'm impressed that you were able to get it apart and attempt a repair. I have a four-color Ballpoint with the 1970s Noblesse and/or Slimline styling (brushed stainless), and it's bent a little like it was in someone's pocket when they sat down. I've considered trying to figure out how it disassembles, but it's not easy, as it looks like most of the mechanism was press-fit into the cap.

Good luck!

Hi - I also have a Pix-o-Mat with issues. It appears to be jammed. We looked inside at the top, but the mechanism seems to be permanently inserted into the lower barrel. I tried a local MontBlanc dealer, but he contacted MontBlanc and was told they don't repair them anymore.

Have you had any luck with your repair? or finding a diagram?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have the same pen in mint condition. Mechanism is working but pens no longer write. Can someone explain how to remove/replace the refills? Thank you in advance.

The refills are still available, they're known as "D1" size. Examples here: https://www.jetpens.com/D1-Refills/ct/5174

The refills are slim and just friction-fit. To remove, unscrew the barrel of the pen, then pull one straight out. To insert, push a new one straight in.

Thank you Antique! Sorry I forgot to ask - How do I remove the barrel?

@AGM, it's Kalessin, one of the moderators of this forum, not antique, hahaha, I see you haven't familiarised yourself with the forum.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
