Recommended Posts

I have just aquired this 146, but the nib is marked 18c (not 18K) and is all

yellow gold

Is it possible it is correct..or should I be trying to get my money back?

Any help greatly appreciated.

The nib is legitimate and correct for a 146. How does the pen write? I think your feeder has a problem from the second picture, are these the seller pictures? I suspect that is just reflection from the slit bevel.

You have got a prized older monotone nib. The newer ones post 90s IIRC have the two tone 14K and 18K(on some pens) nibs. The 146s from the celluloid era (50's) had a two tone nib too, but that nib's pattrern was vastly different and difficult to confuse with modern.

Hari,

Curious on what year you think this is? Mine from the early 80's are both 14K monotone. Think this is 70's pen just after reintroduction? Or could it be one of those 18C "made for the French market only" nibs like its big brother....?

The nib is correct for a 1980's Meisterstück 146 made for the French market.

That is one of the best nibs you can get. Rare and desirable, congrats on your purchase

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

What size is it? Could you post a writing sample?

Congratulations, it's a beauty!

My, similar, 146 is used almost every day.

On this forum the 149 is often king.

I've only recently acquired a 149 - and now I see what all the noise is about. It is pretty spectacular.

But I still rate the 146 as my near-perfect pen.

Enjoy!

It may be a trick of the light, but the tip looks like a stub. Does it have a stubbish character?

For a good understanding of nib descriptions see Richard Binder's excellent site:

Select "Reference Pages" from menu at left. Scroll down to "Nibs 1: The Basiscs".

Glad to hear you are keeping the pen. I would not part with mine.

See 18C nib in lower right of photo below.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
