MB is no longer making them, I believe. The purpose of these cartridges is to clean the feed and the ink channel to the feed. This can easily be achieved with lukewarm or cold water.

So,were they cartridges just filled with water, or mineral oil, alcohol, or what were they using when they still made and sold them?

What was the procedure for using them? Remove old cartridge, put cleaning cartridge in and then write with it until the line was completely clear and then put on new ink cartridge?

I believe they were filled with water only. Never saw one in the flesh, but here's a picture:

Back in the days, I used to flush out my old Sheaffer cartridge pen by filling an old empty cartridge with water, then cutting the top off the cartridge and blowing the water through the pen.

Effective and messy, great fun for a 13 year old.

Actually these are intended to be used on all MBs except with the Traveller. It makes a difference when trying to clean a Boheme with retractable nib due to the shape of the cleaning cartridge. A pack of three costs EUR 5 but I do not know if they are under production although available in some stores. The content is a mistery for me since I haven't yet used them for the first time (anyone willing to send me a Boheme?).

Why not the Traveller? Why not on all MB pens that use a cartridge?

There are some MB pens that are cartridge only filled, e.g. 100th historical and some Bohemes. They can't fit a convertor so you can't flush the pen easily.

I got a pack at home and use it to clean my cartridge pens. They only got water inside so I only opened one (pack of three) and just reuse the one I opened.

Best regards, Kai

Still wondering why you can't use it in a Traveller since it is cartridge fill only.

I haven't got a traveller so can't vouch for that.

Only the cart filled retracting Bohemes need the pen cleaning cartridge. Due to danger of corrosion to the retracting machanism, the bohemes of this type cannot be flushed under running water. For the cart filled pens without this complication, MB recommends flushing under a open tap. This procedure can be found in the service guide included with each MB bought new.

They are still available as I just bought 3 packages of them tonight at an MB store (along with some ink, a pen and a pen case).

Do not know the reason (I do not own a Traveller) but the piece of paper that acts as instructions mentions that "restriction". The main attractiveness of the cleaning cartridge is the shape: a bulb heading a long slim tube long enough to be introduced in any FP body until reaching the nib.

it is not possible to clean the boheme with water because of the retractable mechanism. if you use water to clean the mechanism will damage.

The 147 traveller can be cleaned with water as there is no mechanism.

I tried using a long bulb syringe on a Boheme and it was just a mess, sent the pen back to MB for lubrication because of that. I used the cleaning cartridges afterwards. Wish they would make them with a bigger bulb and more fluid...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
