Wallets In Back Pocket

vysis

Recommended Posts

So I got a 8cc Westside wallet... and now I'm really curious on whether I can put it in my back pocket and sit on it? That's how I've always worn my wallet before, but those wallets were cheap and it wasn't hard leather either.

So for those of you with experience, can you do it?

The answer to your question is really a personal one for you to answer for yourself.

I'd counter with: Why would you want to?

*It ruins the line of your clothes.

*It is uncomfortable.

*It causes excessive wears your trousers.

Not much to recommend the practice as far as I can see.

then where do you put your wallet?

...and i've never had a pocket worn out or show marks from wearing a wallet in my pants. i've only bought cheap clothing, b/c i'm cheap (and poor-ish). now my wallets have never been thick maybe 9/16 - 11/16 of an inch thick or so....

I don't want to sit on a brick like I see some guys do.

lol exactly, I don't have anywhere else to put my wallet. I guess I can put it in my front pocket, but that looks kinda silly... And I don't believe sitting on your wallet will ruin your pants, especially since I will mostly be wearing chinos or jeans (when I'm wearing a suit, the wallet will obviously go into my suit pocket).

Why would anyone worry about "ruining the line of your clothes"? If you like having the wallet in a back pocket go for it.

Pocket dimensions, fit of your clothes, wallet width, and buttock size are important variables. Only you can tell.

Those times when I need a wallet, which isn't often, it goes in the inside coat or jacket pocket.

Other times, I simply bring a few notes folded over my license, ID, a CC and perhaps a few calling cards.

If you are the type who is willing to outlay several hundred pounds to purchase a scrap of leather, say a 8 CC MB wallet, then you are also likely the type to care a bit about your appearance.

Your tailor works hard to get the proper line and drape for you. It seems wrong to ruin that by stuffing a large wallet in your back pocket. Though of course, as both you and I pointed out, it is a personal sartorial decision that only the OP can make.

Ah yes, the pickpockets choice of location for a wallet!

I must admit I find it really uncomfortable to have a wallet in my back pocket regardless of it being a very good location for pickpockets to strike.

I always carry a satchel with me so the wallet goes in a inner pocket in there. If it has to go in my trousers then it is a front pocket and my hand is usually in the same pocket!

All the best.

Ian

For 21 years, including several deployments, I carried my wallet in my right cargo pocket of my BDU/DCU/ACU pants. The wallet never altered the lines of that suit.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Mine goes in my front left pocket. The resulting line isn't exactly beautiful, but it's safer there.

Front right pocket. Small bifolds, the smaller the better.

The voice of this guitar of mine, at the awakening of the morning, wants to sing its joy;

I sing to your volcanoes, to your meadows and flowers, that are like mementos of the greatest of my loves;

If I am to die away from you, may they say I am sleeping, and bring me back home.

I'm sure it did, even if you didn't notice. I don't permit that sort of thing in garrison.

On deployment? Sure, use the many little pockets that the uniform design folks gave you.

Stateside, it just looks sloppy and presents an unmilitary appearance to see a soldier/sailor/airman/marine walking around with bulging pockets. ID card in your top left breast pocket, wallet and smokes tucked into one of your socks. There should be nothing in any of the other pockets, including your hands.

I'd be especially concerned if any of my folks had a $600 MB wallet tucked into their BDU's.

It will soon get ruined in the back pocket.

What I do is just take a credit card when I wear something that doesn't have a more suitable / less weight-bearing pocket =)

you can never get it wrong, because you can never get it done!

Sitting on my wallet makes my bum ache  and no, it is not because it is stuffed with money!

Weird, but true.

Also, wallets in back pocket tend to cry out "nick me!"

I guess that's the difference between the garrison military and the Army in which I served. The garrison military is concerned about appearances. I was worried about keeping people alive in combat, and I could have cared less what they had in their pockets, let alone if the pockets were bulging.

The Battle Dress Uniform, Desert Combat Uniform and Army Combat Uniforms, nor any of the other service equivalent "utilities" were not designed for the parade field.

But here I go, hi-jacking a wallet thread.

Yes, to the line of your trousers, and, yes to how comfortable it is to sit on... Otherwise, it is a wallet, meant for daily use... I am sure it will soften over time and assume a nice patina....

My gig, FWIW:

Credit card holder - 3 cards, ATM, Driver's license, and insurance card. Money clip for cash.

No wallet. I often wonder what you keep in them?

When I did carry a wallet, it was a breast pocket wallet, and, yes, I carried it in the breast pocket of my suit coat or sport coat - or in the briefcase on occasion. Oh, it also only carried the above - hence the switch.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
