If you want a heavy MB, try the Thomas Mann Writer's Edition...

Matt

@Matt:

I am still considering to buy the Thomas Mann. Do you know why this is a heavier FP than others. I thougt it is made of resin too?

It contains more metal. One forum member suggested that it felt like "an anchor in his shirt pocket".

This information is from www.montblanc.com

Launch: 2009

Limitation:

12,000 fountain pens

15,000 ballpoint pens

6,000 rollerballs

3,000 sets comprising fountain pen, ballpoint pen and mechanical pencil

  • Rhodium-plated 18 K gold nib engraved with the "Buddenbrook" house
  • Barrel in precious black lacquer with multilayered inlays
  • Platinum-plated clip set with onyx-coloured zircon
  • Ivory-coloured Montblanc emblem

The Meisterstueck Pens and the Generation pens are made out of resin because these pens are meant to be light.

The Thomas Mann pen is very nice. It's a little too heavy for my liking, however.

Get a price quote from www.fountainpenhospital.com and www.swisherpens.com . Their prices are very competitive.

Brass is not cheap metal, just inexpensive. Brass is used in the body's of the heavier Pelikan's too. Bronze is 10% more expensive than brass.

I have a large Black and Gold Diplomat that is not as heavy as a Cross or the Lamy Persona. The Diplomat is lighter than it looks and is comfortable, but for all my metal pens but my P-75 I write fore finger up, which also moves my hand up the pen a bit....changing the balance.

I have become very use to fore finger up, it is quite possible I now use it much more than pinching, even with light pens, it automatically drops my capped pen, (and I cap them all*), back into the web of my thumb.

* The Persona, some times I write with it uncapped, but it clicks into capping so well, I get use to it...it's cap is not one you want laying on a desk. Mine don't have the little dot on the flush clip to keep it from rolling off a table.

I will admit my plastic MB 234 1/2 Deluxe (52-55) is the most back wighted of my plastic pens, and for me has the best balance/Tied with my silver P-75. But the P-75 is a tad thin, if I think about it. After a couple of minutes of use I don't think about it.

I'm easy to be happy, I guess, or I have fairly good pens, even some of my no name piston pens, as long as they have a good nib.

I am the lucky owner of a MB Generation FP. I love it, despite my angst (see my "Never Again" post in this section of our Forums.... wacko.gif :glare: ) about resin breakage. It has broken twice, I have had it repaired twice, and it is usually always inked and in use.

My very best pens are light. It's important because if you write for long periods of time like I do, the heavier pens take all the pleasure and fun of liquid ink flowing across the paper. Your hand may fatigue and before you know it, you've put the pen away.

I will not ever buy a heavy pen, and won't even look at a pen anymore that weighs more than 20 grams.

The Generation line is still widely available, but I notice that most sellers have more of the Rollerballs and Ballpoints available.

Hi , I am also a MB Generation lover. But unfortunately just like you, my pen section is broken. But don't know where to get a new pen section. Dont want to buy another pen. So please tell me the source of your repair.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to FPN!!!

What happened to your pen? Could you show us a picture?

I suggest you start a new topic about your pen.

I would start on a new thread in either the Montblanc or the Repair forum as this one is from 2010 so the member who had that broken section then, may not be around now to answer your enquiry. :)

Also, the title of this thread doesn't fit with your repair question. -_-

Thanks for the quick reply, greatly appreciated...

Are there any MB you know of that have a heavier feel to them?

Or am I out of luck? I was really expecting something that feels expensive, if I was told this cost 2 dollars and was from china I wouldn't have a problem believing that...

Thanks

The Meisterstück Martelé Sterling Silver FP and Meisterstück Solitaire Blue Hour LeGrand FP are both quite hefty. Personally, I like the lighter resin pens since they feel more comfortable for longer writing sessions.
