Montblanc 147 - flushing

I'm looking at buying a MB147 and I'm curious to know how easy it is to flush and clean when switching cartridges. It unscrews at the back leaving rather a long tube before the section/nib. Does this hamper cleaning if I'm switching ink colors?

Thanks

Nick

Just remove the rear part(cartridge carrier) and flush the fore part under a running tap till it runs clear. It is all there in the service guide that you get with the pen.

Montblanc's cleaning cartridges (product code 001-701) work very well with both Bohème and 147 Traveler pens.

Basicly this is a verrrrrry long plastic cartidges with an eye-dropper ending filled with "cleaning fluid"; once you've used up the cleaning fluid the cleaning cartidges still can be used to flush those pens with water.

I don't know if they are still in production but I found this image on the web:

I'm sure Hari's advice works as well; this is what MB suggests on their website as well:

Some pen sellers provide this cleaning system and certainly MB Boutiques. Although a bit time consuming to clean these pens, not too difficult to work with...especially when your reward is writing with an MB =)

May you and those you love, be always blessed with peace and never ending joy.

I have no problem flushing my 147 "Traveler" cartridge pens. Cool tap water to flush and then I wrap the nib in several layers of papertowel and do a thermometer type shake down. Do this several times until clear water emerges and then I set the nib end in another clean and dry towel wrap and stand in an empty cup overnight to let the paper wick out any remaining moisture. Been doing it that way for years and works well for me. /Craig

Edited to add that care is necessary when shaking the pen that it does not fly off. Good idea to be on carpeted floor also. /Craig

Probably a stupid question, but just to clarify, when flushing this pen, the tepid water is flushed through the pen, or only over the nib?

These are excellent for flushing a 147 with. I was always led to believe (by a reputable source) that they only contain deionized water though, rather than any special cleaning fluid.

Water is flushed through the pen. That's what the cleaning cartridges do too.

I hope that it is clear that water is only flushed through the pen via cleaning cartridge or pipettes NOT simply run through the barrel. I have a large Boheme with retractable nib. Best, Stacy

Hi Stacy, Sorry for any confusion. I was answering only about the 147

Thank you. I was concerned that someone might run water through the barrel when it isn't advisable. Perhaps it doesn't matter with the fixed nib of the 147. Yours in proper maintenance, Stacy

As Chrissy mentioned, it's ok to run water through the barrel of the Traveler, and as stacybean mentioned, it's not for the retractable nib Boheme and pens with the same mechanism. I'm not sure about the Historical Anniversary pen which has a "retractable" nib, but is a different mechanism than the Boheme.
