Recommended Posts

ok, I just got my box in the mail today from an Ebay auction that I won. Since I won the auction and with shipping it was less than 15.00 USD I dont think I got the shaft when it came to this one! It was 10 1 ounce bottles of Rotring ink in the following colors:

Dakota Black

Florence Rose

Shannon Green

Persian Red

Sevilla Red

Sienna Brown

Saxon Blue

Paris Blue

Jakarta Violet

Carlsbad Turquoise

I have yet tried any of them, I was curious to see if any of you have tried them and what were your feelings on them.

Ok, Since my twin 2 year olds are asleep, I was able to get a scan of the inks so you all can get a look at them. If you have heard of them or have used them, your opinions are welcome. If you think my printing is bad, you should see my handwriting!!!

I love them as inks and the plastic bottle that allows filling converters without dipping is good. Over the years I had one case of "bad" ink - not mold but like a chemical breakdown - the ink became too think. Too bad because it was in the turquoise which is awesome.

on my system the Shannon green looks blue. is this just my screen or is it really that much bluer than the turquoise.

nice colors. I like the Rose

I would like to revive this (very) old thread.

These Rotring inks were not only nice but their bottles allowed for

clean direct filling of converters from the bottle without dipping the nib into the ink.

Here is how

That was pretty slick, only reservations I have from ordering on ebay is that they look exactly like the rapidograph bottles with the exception that the rapidograph ink bottles never had that straw that goes down into the bottle.

I know! I was wondering if that wasn't rapidograph ink.

Looks like someone in Rotring's ink department was playing with a drawing ink bottle, and realized that all they had to do was add a straw...

The FP inks were clearly marked Fountain Pen Ink and you are correct the rapidograph inks did not have the "straw".

Good, so if it says fountain pen on the label then its the real article. I saw something on ebay that said "drawing ink," but a chill ran through my spine cause it just sounds like a marketing name for rapidograph ink.

I have found that ink is not ink. I use all types and have found that all types are not good for all pens and can ruin one in a minute. So if you have fountain pens, use fountain pen ink, if it is technical pen by all means use technical ink. Drawing is one thing and writing is yet another. Both very beautiful in its own

Have a great day

Antonios is quite correct, these inks were water-based colors for fountain pens...I used to sell them! Interesting idea & fun for those who like "gimmicky" filling systems (remember the Pelikan Level 5 when it first came out?), but just didn't catch on.

Rotring just didn't do a good job of promoting them and actually, one of the questions in this thread about whether or not they were tech pen inks was another sticking point. People who knew Rotrng's permanent tech ink bottles came up with this question to me quite often. You'd be surprised how many fountain & tech pen users do not read the labels on their ink bottles...that's why my hands were constantly multi-colored with ink!

Lets resurrect this old thread as I am happy to report that I just receive a set of all the Rotring inks, just as many of my old inks finished or were about to finished. Great flow, great colors. I wish that Rotring (or Parker now) could keep making them :)

Thanks for resurrecting this, it is an interesting thread. Especially the youtube video

Any of that Rotring fountain pen ink you want to sell? I'm looking for a green ink specifically. I just scored a whole set of old Rotring cartidges of various colors, all dry of course, but a syringe and distilled water brings them back to life.

Cheers, Anthony.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
