How does well does Noodler's Eel Black perform for an illustrator.
misalignedtines posted a topic in Inky Thoughts
Hi everyone. I've been planning to add a new black ink to my collection. I'm an illustrator and primarily use it for drawing. I have used Noodler's Black, Bad Black Moccasin, Heart Of Darkness, El Lawrence and X-Feather Black. I primarily use these for sketching with light grey washes applied. I find all the above inks suit this purpose. Apart from these inks, I have a bottle of Platinum Carbon Black and Lexington Grey exclusively for heavy washes with watercolours. I recently acquired a new pen and childishly wish to get a new bottle of ink for it. I generally use eyedropper pens with ebonite feeds and flex nibs for drawing. I have noticed all the above inks have unique properties. I also noticed Noodler's Black and El Lawrence have a tendency to get erased away with a pencil eraser when dry. I have not encountered this with the other inks. The ink that I wish to add is Noodler's Eel Black. I have a few queries, which if anyone has some experience with, will be very helpful. 1. Does the ink erase off a bit with a pencil eraser when dry. 2. Is there any spread or feather with this ink? Rather, is this ink particularly fussy on paper. I use fountain pens in sketchbooks with friendly paper. Sometimes certain inks still feather. How is Noodler's Eel in this regard. 3. I plan to use it in a transparent Demonstrator Eyedropper. Does Noodler's Eel cause any staining issues in the long run. Conversely, is the ink a 'laxative' one. Can it remove pre existing stains from a demonstrator since it supposedly contains a lot of surfectants and lubricants. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.- 2 replies

Bad experience with Noodler's Black and i am really wondering why
ThePenLover posted a topic in Inky Thoughts
Hey , i was really wondering why i had such bad experience with Noodler's Black - Normal ( not Eel - lubricated ) ...... Not a single fountain pen in my collection can handle it and flow ..it produces nib creep ( ink stains the nib between the nib tines ) and it dosen't have a flow at all most of the time , hard starts are guaranteed . Yet it is the most popular black , it may be a good ink in general , but not a single pen of mine can even flow with it On the other hand Noodler's Blue - American Eel ( lubricated ) is one of my top inks ! Haven't found a solution or a explanation till this day . Thanks- 5 replies

Best Ink For Vintage Scheaffer Tuckaway
SadieWriter posted a topic in Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop
I have a Sheaffer Tuckaway pen of my father's, c. 1944-1945. It was recently professionally restored and I need to know the best ink to use in this type of pen. Is Noodler's Eel safe? Monteverde or Herbin? Do I need to use, or avoid lubricated ink for this pen?- 3 replies
