What is the best pen you ever lost?

I lost a Schaeffer's Balance. It was a wonderful Jade Green Oversized pen that my wife gave me. It wrote very well, had great even colour, and no brassing. I even purchased a suit to compliment it. I still miss that pen today. I liked it so much that my wife obtained a vintage advertisement that she had custom framed with matching frame material which I used to have hanging over my desk. I still miss it today, and likely always will.

I haven't lost a pen yet (knock on wood) -- unless, the no-name celluloid pen that I accidentally set fire to, with a heat gun, counts. :D

Talking about fountain pens is like dancing about architecture.

I lost a Parker 51 -- black with gold cap. As it was a gift and engraved with my name, I am always hoping it will show up (it may be simply misplaced at home). It still annoys me.

A Blue Carbonesque Pilot VP I had just gotten the week before :(

Also the cap of a White Tortoise Pelican 400 making it unusable :( :(

I'm really bad about losing things...

I lost a Pelikan 200 in Ithaca, NY about 20 years ago. I think it fell out of my bag as i was cycling through the backstreets of Cayuga Heights. I still have ink i got for that pen -- but not the pen.

I lost a very nice English teal aerometric 51 with a clean gf cap somewhere in Alberta, most likely at Elbow Lake, but it could have been anywhere from Canmore to Calgary. I assume Peter lost his somewhere in Alberta, too. Happy hunting folks!

I lost my Dad's Parker lever filler pen when I was in highschool, I don't know how. I also have lost an old Sheaffer fountain pen I used in college.

Luckily the only pen I have ever lost was a Parker Reflex. Unfortunately, it was the first FP I had ever owned... it was about 6 years before I got another one.

Last weekend I thought I lost my true blue Duofold, turns out I just left it on my desk at school and it was there when I came back on Monday! Thank goodness!!! Losing that would have killed me.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

Well "lost" in my case is a complicated story. I bought the Waterman Opera pen and pencil set when it came out in the late 80's. It was beautiful and he FP fell apart within a year. I was very unhappy. I was also terribly busy so it took me forever to find out how to get it repaired. The shop I bought it from (on the upper west side of Manhattan, not there anymore thank The Lord) wanted nothing to do with me, or servicing their product. They gave me an address in Mid-Town somewhere, which in those days was a Waterman servicing center. The guy there was terrible. He had bins and bins of stuff to go back to (France?) the company. I filled out the paperwork with my address and all, and he gave me a receipt and no indication when and if the pen would come back. He said something to the effect that they had "tons and tons" of problems with the pens. I was discouraged. In the subsequent years, I got married; changed jobs, (but did not move or change numbers for over five years) etc... and barely thought about the pen except on occasion. Well, I never heard from them; never got my pen back, nothng-- zip. Lost the receipt along the way.

This really turned me off to pens. I thought of pens as expensive, pretty junk. So, I "lost" a pen to the manufacturer. While I am back, to some extent, I would not buy a Waterman no matter how much I love the Edson. The Waterman name left a bad taste in my mouth. Somewhere in the back of my mind is the concept of expensive, pretty junk. Still, I am enamored of writing, so.....

My Wife has lost the Fantasia ball point pen I bought her for our wedding (it matches my fountain pen). It is killing her that she lost it. I have to replace it, but she says she doesn't want any more nice pens, she just looses them. It's a very sad thing. I'm going to get her a new one and say "Oh look Honey, I found your pen....uhmmmm....... under the ...... uh....... refridgerator....... yeah, that's it...... under the refridgerator!"

The only pen of consequence I have ever lost was a Mont Blanc ballpoint. I think it was the 149 size. This has to have been in the late 1970's. I did not know anything about Mont Blanc's then. I was crazy for Sheaffer Targa fountain pens at the time. Someone stole the Mont Blanc. I have not had a Mont Blanc since. Hummmmm!

Bought a Platinum briar pen once which "disappeared" on a train ride just a week after I got it. It has been replaced, though: by the Nakaya sister model and a Platinum in cedar. Just in case ...

Last week I lost my MB 149 that I had only received three or four weeks ago. I'm hoping and pretty sure it's only temporarily lost. I left four of my pens on the ottoman/coffee table in our living room and came home to find the cats must have gotten into them because they were on the floor...all except the 149.

My wife and I have searched the living room, under the couch, chairs, tables you name it. Not a sign of it anywhere. I know it has to be in the unit somewhere. Hopefully it will turn up soon.

Oh well, lesson learned.

Cheers,

Casey

149s are GREAT kitty play toys. The balance and design was meant for one purpose only, to spin wildly and erratically as the cat chases it across the floor.

I doubt that it would qualify as a BEST pen, but my grandfathers Sheaffer oversized pen that was stolen ( see here ) is the one I miss the most.

My Parker Falcon was stolen in a Southampton nightclub back in the 80's, years before I got as seriously into fountain pens as I am today but I miss it so much. Oh dear, this has opened an old wound, I loved that pen, the nib design was so beautiful wah wah wah.......... :crybaby:
