THE best notepads?

Recommended Posts

I've been searching for good quality notebooks and pads that I can source in the UK. I tend to write the most with an OB nib which lays down quite a bit of ink, so want something solid which I can preferably write on both sides of the paper. I've wasted quite a bit of time and money on various ones so a little help and your contributions would be most welcome! I'm not keen on blank paper - I like either lined or grid.

I've sourced a store that sells both Rhodia and Clairefontaine among others. I want to be able to buy a spiral bound pad for use as a day book and also a top bound pad for my conference type binders.

Here is the store I found - http://www.papeteriedirect.com/index.php

Any suggestions which notepads would be the best for my OB nibs? I'm looking to avoid feathering and show through and would really like to settle on some good pads and get on with the rest of my life!

Thanks!

Miquelrius although i don't know in what form their pads come in.

My favorite is Rhodia though.

I would second Rhodia. It is great paper. They are the only grid paper I have ever really like using because the lines are fairly faint and not overwhelming.

Why not try The Writing Desk, they stock Rhodia and Clairefontaine and Martin's a member of FPN.

The ink is important.

I use Moleskine notebooks - stumbled across them by accident and now use them where they come in handy.

With ink:

Using Montblanc blue black ink on both sides is no problem at all.

However, if I were to use regulat blue, black, etc. it'll seep through...

I prefer Clairefontaine to Rhodia. Both are good, and I've heard many people talk as if they are the same, but I feel a slight difference.

Edit: But, both will handle ink very well, my preference is based on feel/smoothness.

I also use the Clairefontaine notebooks and love them. The paper takes fountain pen ink very well and I never experience any problems. They are also fairly economical and available in a variety of configurations.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it ... gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
