Dear people of the waterman world,

During my trips to China, I have seen a lot of fake montblancs there. Are there fake waterman's too? Is there such a thing?

yours truly,

Haven't heard of any, but as the old saying goes... "if it sounds to good to be true..."

On one hand I'd say "no'" simply because I don't believe Waterman are seen as being "up there" with the likes of MB 149 or Pel M1000 mega-pens.

OTOH if someone thought there was a market out there for them...

thx

Dear Bruce,

It's nice to know that there are none. We can buy any waterman with our heart's content without any fear of buying fakes.

Yours truly,

Well, I think Parker Sonnet isn't exactly a flagship pen of excessive price. Definitely not the category of MB149. And it's being faked a lot.

So, I'd suggest being careful and examining every pen closely. Especially in China.

I got a thing that looked rather like a Graduate (?-- low-end, quasi-student pen, not sold in North America) that had feed and converter identical to those in a Chinese novelty pen with a poorly-functioning compass for a derby. There was a certain degree of argument here about whether it was a knock-off, but since there are apparently knock-off Heros in the world, there's not reason Watermans of all degrees might not be reproduced.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

They'll knock off anything in China. I'd guess somebody there is probably making fake melamine as we speak...

The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it.
