Do you "like" a certain pen because a greater person had used it?

Someone greater than me?

Of course I do. Ever since I heard Girls Aloud are fans of the Lamy ABC, that's all I'll use...

I'm not sure if I should give you two points for making me laugh or subtract three for even knowing who Girls Aloud are....

They are, of course, the High Priestesses of The New Religion of Musical Integrity Through the Medium of Clothes. Spangly clothes.

Makes note to subtract five points, not three.

What's-her-name from Garbage had a shoe fetish, but the band was actually good....

Because of you, I've taken a liking for artistic splatters of ink as a clothing statement.

Pens? Not so much.

Is this true? Because if it is, I'm switching from my Spider Man fountain pen.

Entirely true, although I must clarify that devotees of The New Religion consider Spangly Clothes an article of personal faith, rather than a matter of belief which might be submitted to proof of its truth-value.

That Girls Aloud epitomize musical integrity is most certainly a matter of faith in the highest degree.

And, in the spirit of The High Church of Holy X Factor, may I say Hallelujah!

I am also considering a Parker 51 Flighter, solely on the basis that Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck both used them.

I did almost add Jimmy Page to that list, which would have completed The Holy Triumvirate of Musical Integrity Through the Medium of Actual Musical Talent which, as any well qualified theological scholar knows, is a small and subversive offshoot of The True Religion of Popular Music in the 20th Century, and is largely considered a rather heretical denomination.

I looked up LedZepGirl's profile, but she seems to have deleted the signature I was expecting as reference. :)

I have heard tell of that signature. It is truly legendary.

On another, slightly related note...

Jimmy Page was well known for using a violin bow to play his guitar with. I have tried this method but found that it ultimately proved unsatisfactory. The hair of small children (still attached to their young and supple heads) generally provides better tone when used on the nickel coated guitar strings than does even the finest quality horse hair. Of course, if we're going down the acoustic guitar bronze coated string route, geriatrics (if you can find one with a good supply of strand-like material) accentuate the tonal frequencies much more roundly.

I could care less.... I use a pen because I like the pen and how it writes.... who cares who might have used that type of pen in the past... Does MacArthur using a Duofold or Eisenhower using a Parker 51 make it a better pen?

Both great men, IMO, but it does make the pens they used any better than my use of them... just a whole lot more collectible if you ever found it.

Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule, My daughter wants a Parker 51 and a Vacumatic because I have one... In her heart a "greater person".....

I only wish I could always stand up to being what she sees in her heart.

BTW, she has neither at this point.... but I did give her an uninked Parker 21 Super FP/MP set for Christmas... it is currently filled with Diamine Imperial Purple

I once saw a picture of Charlie Manson with a Parker pen, and knew I had to have it. :vbg:

You want to own Charlie Manson using a Parker?

Unlike those who say they 'could care less' (what does that mean?), I have to say I could NOT care less ;) .....

I don't know, or seek to know, who's used something I am thinking of buying.

(Unless it's someone I know whose opinion I might ask before buying) :)

I'd like to say no. However, if I were to find out what type of fountain pen T. S. Eliot used (he must have used one, I imagine) I probably would want one. The exact one, preferably, although I'd settle for the same model and year. It's something I'm vaguely interested in finding out, but nothing I've read has mentioned it thus far.

Finally, another use for small children beyond the practical suggestions of Jonathan Swift.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
