Difference between M800 and M600

Recommended Posts

I have a black/Green M800. I am seeking to purchase a black/red M600. Can anyone who has the M600 or/and an M800 tell me some distinct differences in terms of the feel. Probably the M600 holds less ink than the M800, is it a lot less? Before you ask, the difference is probably in price as to why I am selecting an M600, besides I have an M800 and it would be redundant to get the same size just in a different color, but I am really once again enjoying the bigger pen, like my M800 and Visconti.

i have several of both models, and you can certainly tell the weight difference. i keep thinking that the 600 would be the ideal size, but keep going back to the 800 for the heft in the hand. (i also have the M1000, and still prefer the 800 for daily use.)

Is it that the M1000 is really large? I saw a picture and the M1000 looks just a tad larger than the M800. The M600 you can kind of see where it is just a little tad smaller. I really don't think I want to own another M800 due to the fact that I love my Green/Black purchased so many years ago. Now, I also have an blue/black M800 roller ball. I am having a fierce return passion for fountain pens and so it has a blue refill in it, but sits in my Pen roll, I guess you should have at least one roller ball and one ballpoint, just in case.

I love the striations of the red/black and want an additional fountain pen as I love Pelikan as much as my Visconti because of how much ink they hold and once you get the nibs feeling just right they are just wonderful! I am a poet/writer and bibliophile (Love to journal/write almost compulsively). I have a couple of days till I hopefully purchase it. Thanks ever so much though, I don't know now if I will ever be able to acquire a M1000, but nice to hear from someone who has several and who knows first hand how they feel to use. :D

If that's the case, then you may want to consider the M625. Same size as the M600 but with the heft of an M800 (actually, it's a little heavier):

M600 17.6 grams

M800 25.5 grams

M625 30.0 grams

(as noted on nibs.com)

The M1000 is not a whole lot heavier than the M800 and is quite useable. I use it often when I have a lot of grading to do and need a big pen in the hand all day.

That said, it feels a lot larger, subjectively.

To fully enjoy it, I have to be in the mood for a large pen.

the M1000 is appreciably larger than the M800, and a world apart from the M600. one look at its nib and you're going to gasp, "oh my god."

i love the red/black combo too, so one of my M800s--and among my daily writers--is in that color. there's none of that in the M1000 series, though, so you may want to get the M600 instead, but i tell you, it IS smaller and lighter, but only in comparison to the M800). i also have an M650, and that's a sweet one with a vermeil cap, so it's slightly heavier than the usual 600-series pellie.

I had the M600 and M1000, and still have the M800. To me, the M600 was just a bit too small, too light and too flimsy feeling. Likewise, the M1000 was too big, too heavy and too overblown. The M800 I found to be perfect in every way.

Just personal preference...

I have the M1000 and the M800 and the Grand Palace which is like a M600. The M1000 is over the top size wise. And I am just not real comfortable with the M800 or the M600 - I keep thinking that there should be something in between. Perhaps as Mr. Wall Steet says the M625 might be something to look at.

I own the two.

The M600 is smaller, weights less.

The M800 feels a little larger than life (big and beautiful nib, large but not too large pen, heavier).

I thing that the M600 is the perfect pen for a long writing session, a little more comfortable with its lightness.

But I also love to be writing with the M805.

For years my favored Pelikan has been the M300. I have at least one of all five Souveran sizes (just recently acquired the last one) but with my small female hands was drawn to the 300's - until I wrapped my fingers around the M800 and started to write with it. Even though the M300's were my usual I had the M605 solid blue, but it was just not right in my hand. It was too light and was not comfortable to use. The M800 has a nice heft and balance that makes it a dream to write with even with smaller hands. I have the M1000 which is also a wonderfully balanced pen that glides over the page like floating in a dream. I don't use it much as it has a B nib on it and lays down one beautifuly wet line which sucks the ink chamber dry after a few pages of writing. (I really do need to get a smaller nib for it.)

All in all, I would have to say that if you really enjoy the M800 you will most likely be disappointed with the straight M600. But as has been said the M625 has a really nice weighty balance and feel which would probably make you happier. I have the blue one and it is a delight to use. It comes in a red model and I believe they recently came out with one in another color.

Enjoy the hunt!

Kass

Does anyone have a Pelikan Polar 640 fountain pen?

I just saw one on a website. It does not look like the other Pelikan pens. It is not a M800 and it has a higher number than the M625. What do you think? Otherwise because of the responses, I am going to go with another M800, just in the red/black striation. I love Pelikans and I want to be able to enjoy whatever version I get. I love my M800 green/black striation

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
