Hi, I bought a Pelikan M150 about 2 weeks ago. It's my first Pelikan and I'm enamoured :bunny01: I've got a question: there were two M150s with different sized nibs. One cap with engraved logo of the Pelikan (can't remember number of chicks nor colour of the engraving) and the other has a gold non-engraved logo with two stylised chicks (waves). Also, for the first pen, the word Pelikan on the gold band is not centred (relative position to clip), but to the side. For the second pen, the word is centred. Both pens are NOS. Is it possible to date the pens?

Hello, I am not the most knowledgeable guy around here, but I will give it a try.

 

First, centring the cap band engrave and the clip is not an issue, the clip should move once removed the top cap.

 

For the top cap logo it's different. Switch between engraved and stamped logo should have happened around 1997. So the first pen is made before 1997. If the word Germany in the cap band is not preceded by W. the pen is made between 1990 and 1997.

 

The second pen now. The two chicks become one in 2003. Then it should be dated between 1997 and 2003.

 

Regarding the size of the nib, I don't know if that changed. M150 should have a small nib but the whole unit is interchangeable with the M200/M400 range.

Thanks, Andre, for the most helpful reply! :) Do you happen to know whether M150 EF nibs have undergone any changes in design? I'm also hoping to find out when the EF nibs were introduced.

I believe the EF has been around for a long time. So dating the pen might be better with the other items mentioned in the thread.

Regarding the last statement: be careful, I think the M150 nib is smaller than the M200/M400. Not much, but the cap will twist the tines of the nib when put on tight. I found this out the hard way. :headsmack:

Sure. Just to clarify my earlier post, the M150 nibs will fit the larger pens fine. Just don't put the larger nibs M200 and > on the M150 because the cap will crush the nib when screwed down tightly.

2 chicks? My embosed M150 has a momma pelikan and a little baby next to her... is that what you mean? This is on the end of the cap...

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
