So they are starting to appear. Are they any good? I definitely want another one with an Extra Fine nib so I am trying to see if they will have ANY. That or Vanishing Point

i've never seen a VP at either stores. staples, i think, carries a wider selection of FPs that include Parker Latitude, cross and maybe Waterman Phileas, but that's all (at least in northern Cal.) some office-depot stores carry a little bit more, but i've never seen a VP there.

My experience with the local O.M. and Staples is that they were only stocking Medium points.

That and the employees didn't understand fountain pens.

The best deals with them I have heard about is that when they do a close out, and then the buyer sends the Medium nibbed pen for a free nib exchange.

YMMV

Some Monteverdes, some Cross locally, but the only Watermans I've spotted are BPs and RBs. Mostly low end, steel nibs in the ubiquitous M.

I have never seen any other than relatively inexpensive pens with medium steel nibs at those stores. They are not necessarily bad, just not what I am interested in.

From what I saw at my local Staples (just a quick peak), only the Watermans were worth looking at -- and even then, nothing that under normal circumstances would turn my head.

I'm hoping to score an after Christmas bargain for the Phileas.

I've seen both the Waterman Phileas and Parker Latitude FPs at Staples and Office Depot. I've never seen an FP at Office Max.

I got a Cross Aventura for about $40 from one of my local Staples stores. It's neither bad nor brilliant. I don't regret picking it up, in any case.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just ordered 13 pens from Office Depot for $16.23.

4 of their Foray 3 fountain pen 3 packs at $2.99 and 1 Pilot Varsity in purple at $2.98 (my wife likes it, except for it being so damn ugly :)

Free shipping (they charge tax) at this point. Free 2 business day shipping, I should point out.

For $2.99 and free shipping it is a mighty fine deal to try the pens. 1 black, 1 blue, 1 red. Pretty straight-forward, not an annoyingly wide medium though wider than I prefer (for the Pilot I'll appropriate a nib from a Petit1 or 78G).

There is a thread about this:

My Staples carries Parker Sonnet, Waterman Phileas, and they carry Cross, so they may carry some Cross FP. I didn't look through them.

I rely on Staples for refills and such. The local stores have Parker and Sheaffer carts.

They also have their Foray brand for RB/BP refills of most brands. Their Parker gel refills are terrific! Cheaper than the Parker brand and just as good!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
