It very much depends upon the pen. You might want to try an inexpensive fine and extra fine before deciding which one to purchase in a more expensive model.

I would go for the EF. Lamy's nibs seem to be a bit on the broad side, I have a Lamy Vista with a F nib, and a Lamy CP1 with a EF nib and although I like the smoothness of the F nib, the EF is perfect for everyday writing. I really like the Lamy pens, which can be bought at a good price directly from Germany

I would suggest EF as well, I have bought a lamy vista with F nib, but end up buying the EF nib for replacement.

I also suggest an EF. I have a Safair with a F nib, but found it was a bit to wide for me. I recently acquired a Studio with an EF nib. I love it. Very smooth and the line width is perfect.

If you have a store in your area, try each nib before you buy.

Good luck in your search.

In my experience, the Lamy Safari EF nib isn't as smooth or as round as the F nib, and its line isn't much narrower either.

If you want a really fine nib with line-width variation, and you don't need silky smoothness, it's just what you want.

The F nib works well in printed spreadsheet cells (Arial 12 and similar font sizes). I use it frequently at work to mark in such cells.

I have a Lamy F and an EF. I find the F just great for all around writing with a reasonably sized line. The EF, in contrast, is so thin as to be "uncomfortable" for me to use. YMMV

I have an EF, F, and M. I prefer the line width and smoothness from the F, though I think the EF would be just fine. I would lean towards the EF, since you seem to be looking for a thinner nib. I haven't really had any flow problems with mine. On the plus side, you can get the nibs seperate from the pens if you decide the EF is too scratchy.

I have both the F and EF as well! The EF is great when writing on thinner paper, or if you tend to write small. I found the EF a little scratchy at first but it became better with use. Either the nib smoothened or I've adjusted the way I hold the pen.

Go with the EF......Similar to a M from most other makers....

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
