How easily do your pens get scratched up?

I cringe when I read posts about how some people treat their pens. I worry about everything else in their house, and their cars and tools and spouses and kids and pets. I mean, if you put a pen in the same jeans pocket with your keys and coins etc. it will get scratched, and ugly scratched. There is a kind of wear or wear pattern from using a tool correctly that imparts a certain charm to the object and shows the masterful use and appreciation for it. Then there are scratches that expose careless use, bad luck, and lack of attention. Just my opinion, of course.

I suppose you are right. Like an urushi pen that gains character from use. I guess you can think of the scratches as the character of a pen.

I give my safari to people to write with... I like the way they are confused about how to use it.

I'm tempted to put that in my signature. :)

Well, I agree with you to a point. No way would I put a pen in my jeans pocket with my tools, spouses, kids or pets...

I can see tools in your pocket... but spouses kids and pets in the pocket too? There would be no room for a pen!!

I keep pens in my pocket- but not with anything else. It depends on pen, but there are a lot of pens I don't. But I often clip pens into my back pocket or my low-hip pocket (by a hammer loop). Don't get scratches from having them there. Never keep pens alone in my front pockets, because they often fall down and go horizontal, where I worry about snapping the pen in half or leaking. I shouldn't say never- sometimes I do if I have the pen in a little pen case.

I used to always keep a pen clipped my shirt, but then the babe when he was only a couple of months old boked his head against my chest, smacking his head against the clip of my Lamy 2000- and that's a sharp clip. Started slipping the one or two pens I had on me into my back pocket a lot of the times, and when I sit down take it off and hold them in my hand or clip it onto my hurt or notebook.
