Guider pens from India

Does anyone have any experience with Guider pens from India? I like the look of some of the ebonite pens. Are they reliable, problem free pens. I have a Wality piston fill and was really underwelmed by its writing ability (a little leaky too). Are guiderpens of better quality? Do they need tweaking?

I'm looking into that myself, Irish Monk.

Going to order one, mainly trying to decide between acrylic and ebonite.

You've probably seen their posts like I have,

but glad to see jbb, jimhughes, Inkstain and Ernst Bitterman

reported liking their Guider pens from luckygrandson (Steve Braun).

No affiliation, just he's given really quick helpful responses to my inquiries.

Collected ballpoints for decades, found FPN early June

after ordering Pilot BeGreen >70% post-consumer recycled content rollerballs.

Now have Parker Frontier, Pilot 78G, Pelikan M200, Rotring Core,

Reform 1745 from JJBlanche, Hero 616 & 257 from JDlugosz, Pilot Knight & Dux 612.

I have two acrylic EDs that I got from Steve. I have been using one since the DC Pen Show. In my two and a half weeks with the pen I have found it to be very reliable. I do no use the pen constantly, but will pick it up for a page or two (usually copying recipes) every two -three days. It starts with no problems. There was one occasion when my finger slipped and got a little close to the feed and got a stain, but that's the extent of any "issues" I have had. For the price, it's definitely a good performer. They are easy on the eyes too.

No affiliation and all that jazz.

Looking for an Omas Arco Verde...the one that got away.

I've had one in battery for about a week now, and it's looking pretty good. There's a small question about the way the cap and its vent holes are arranged, but if left on its side rather than vertical, it picks up writing immediately even after about three days of no action. The only real surprise I've had is from the interaction of the fresh ebonite and Waterman's blue-black; the ink is so affected by the sulfur coming off the pen, it comes out emerald green. This is something I expect to trail off in use, but I'd not keep them in the same vessel with celluloid pens.

edit-- that cap concern only comes into play after several hours of non-use. It will ride in a shirt pocket and start happily as needed through the course of a day.

So far my pen seems great. It's VERY smooth and starting up at the first touch to the paper. The very first day I had it the ink flow seems slow but I pressed hard as I wrote a couple of times and since then it has been lovely. It's not the type of pen I usually write with (not flex) as I obtained it as part of a trade with Steve Braun but I'm using it at my desk every day now.

I would buy one if they didn't look like Parker knock offs. :headsmack:

Hi Zodd...

On the temp website you can see that not ALL of the pens are using the Parker Style clip.

All Write Now temp site

Thanks

Steve

Thanks for the link, I really think all of the pens are quite beautiful but the ones I like most all have the parker style clip. For the price I may just have to suck it up and get one anyway.

sorry for the derail irish_monk

I have three pens manufactured in India all perform well. Two are Guilder, both write well (the acrylic from Steve/luckygrandson is just great). I bought a large version from Hari317 and it just keeps getting better and better as I use it.

I have two Guider pens (acrylic versions). They both are extremely reliable and write very nicely. Since they are eyedroppers, they hold a ton of ink (and you can actually see the ink level through the barrel!). Great value.

I am in the process of writing a review of them and hope to post it in a few days.

Using right now:

Kaweco Sport Aluminum "M" nib running Diamine Firefly

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
