Ledger

In my youth I worked as a farmhand for a lawyer that owned several farms. Every friday afternoon his employees would line up outside his office, waiting for the old man to call their name to receive pay. Everything in his office was ancient. I always thought it was grand, but back then antique wasn't a good term. He had a giant ledger that he recorded everything in,when open it occupied most of his desktop. Of course he used fountain pens.

Today I had the pleasure of writing in one myself. The company I was doing business with was using it as a visitors log (gasp) Memorys came flooding back and I couldn't resist signing in with my old Sheaffer Snork. :) the problem is my 'want one' brain cells are sounding alarm bells now.

I've did a bit of googling but that seems hopeless. Drats I wish I had looked for a brand name, but for all I know it could have been scrounged from a forgotten office closet when the normal notebook was filled.

Anyone know where I might find one?

New/NOS would be awesome, but even a mostly unused one would work.

Thanks in advance,

Brandon.

I like those too and have a few old ones from yard sales and thrift stores. Here are some brand names:

  • S.E. & M. Vernon Inc. Manufacturers
  • Standard B & P
  • Smith Bros., Oakland, Calif.
  • Boorum & Pease

It looks like you can get modern ones:

Also ebay seems to have some. Search "ledger book -heath."

For some reason I never think of the 'bay when internetting on my phone...

I dropped a bid on that Boorum&Pease.. I have no doubt someone will snipe me, but we will know in a few hours.

Thanks for the reminder.. And Thanks for the 'New' source.

Things fly under the radar all the time... so why not now? I hope you get it!

Some of the paper in old ledger books is fabulous with dip pens or very flexy fountain pens.... probably because it was actually used with those. That cool, old fashioned Spencerian writing is much easier to achieve on that sort of paper.

Oh, I have no intention of writing in it. My brother and I have paper airplane wars and I think a 150 extra large aircraft air force will destroy his punny Mead Air force.

If I do write on it, it will only be to give my Air force an insignia. Oh and aircraft numbers too. That will be so cool. Imagine the look on his face when he sees my Air Armada, I bet he will shake with fear. Muhahahahahaha.

Oh yeah, I'm just kidding. If I win it I will decide what to write in it. I've been sniped 1000's of times and I've learned not to get my hopes up.

Check any business supply store or Big Box Office Supply store, they still make and stock Accounting Journals (each page is lined and numbered also called Record Books) and Ledgers (a various number of columns are available) .

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
