Montblanc private sale!

Card must be present! MB said I was on their mailing list, but I think they lied! Haven't got one thing from them yet!

Have you purchased anything from them yet? You may be on the general list but not the private sale list.

Yeh, I purchased my 145 from them, and thats where I learned about their mailing list. I probably didn't qualify for being treated to a private sale because I'm a "kid".

What do you have to do to be on this list? Just buy something there before the sale?

Not necessarily. Today I went to MB boutique in McLean, VA to try out different nib sizes on 149 but didnt buy anything. I just asked about their private sale then the salesperson offered me a Private Sale invitation card. Hopefully I will try to make it to the sale.

I purchased a pen during the March sale. Instead of taking it home immediately, they sent it to the factory to have the nib (which I think was a BB) replaced with an EF nib. So, it would be worth asking the salesperson if that opportunity applies to sales items. I would think it would because of the administrative difficulty of keeping up with product that was sold on sale and therefore might NOT qualify for nib substitution.

The invite card does say to present the card but I can't imagine a store turning someone away from purchasing a sale items even if they did not have an invite. After all, what is the purpose of having a sale in the first place.

Well, yes, I'm a bit off to the east of your border but I asked in a MB Boutique yesterday what gives and they said that they too (here) have a sale every year, but usually/always in a different month. Next time it's in February. All you have to do is be on their list, and, for that you don't have to have bought anything first.

all of you are right, I think it depends on the sales person you spoke with. Some of the sales person who does not have good knowleadge about fountain pens and treat you well only if you are in a nice sudes are the ones who would said " you need to be good customer who buys from MB to be on the list". Others who has been working in MB for a while and knows their product will have no problem adding you to the list. And not to mention pen lover such as I, who goes to MB for something particular in mind, so no sales pitch is needed, just take my crd card and put my pen in the bag. In and out no 1 hr selling pitch trying to convince me of something that I would not be interest in. What an easy way to make comission.

Guess there's no harm looking.

Jeen et al.,

If anyone cares to meet at KofP on the first of September to celebrate the lightening of our wallets and to spill ink into our coffee, PM me.

Fred

Edit: P.S. I'll start a new thread on this.

I went to the private sale at the store in Northpark Mall in Dallas.

Unfortunately, I didn't buy anything that was on sale.

However, I did buy the Shaw Writer's Edition.

Yeah! Is this an international thing?

Does it happen in Malaysia? That be cool!

Also, is it for walk-ins?

Nope! There was no sale in the MB boutique in Malaysia when I went there on Sep1. :hmm1:

I went by my local Boutique yesterday and most of the sale pens were gone. The salesperson said most of the sale items were sold on the first day of the sale. Oh well, maybe next time.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
