Levenger Stub Nibs

EventHorizon

Recommended Posts

I have checked the Levenger website and as far as I can tell, you can only get a stub nib if you buy this sampler pac. Has anybody ever bought just the stub nib? Has anybody used the stub nib?

I will send an e-mail to Levenger just in case but thought I would start here.

I have a vintage Waterman stub which I love. Esterbrook stubs are not the easiest to come by so I thought I would give Levenger a try......if I can buy one. Did you buy the whole sample pack or get your seperatly?

I have one. It's very smooth, but doesn't have much variation. I wish it were a little finer, but if you like medium nibs, you should like this stub quite a bit. I'm still hoping that Levenger will release an extra fine nib.

My stub is also in the Obsidian Black True Writer. That might be the only one of their pens that you can buy with the stub.

For $34 more than the same pen with a round nib, which is pretty damn ridiculous IMO. Incidentally, they're having a sale on this pen right now - you can get it for $42. As long as you don't want a stub nib. --j

I love the True Writer series of pens and I especially like the Obsidian Black with stub nib. I bought one for my wife as well and she uses it daily. I did buy them when on sale and I used a frequent buyer discount coupon to soften the price. /Craig

Why, in your opinion, is that so ridiculous? What would you pay for a Richard Binder or a Greg Minuskin stub nib (including shipping, grinding charge, and turnaround time)? Maybe I value things a little differently than you do, but I think that's fairly reasonable. :)

Because with the custom ground pen I'm getting just that - custom handwork. That justifies the premium. These as far as I know are stock factory nibs. If I buy a Carene and I want a stub nib, Waterman doesn't charge me $34 extra for it. To pay better than half again the cost of the round nibbed pen for a stock stub nib seems wrong to me. --j

Well, jonro seems to be correct. Below is the response from Levenger:

Thank you for your inquiry.

We have never carried the stub nib as a stand alone product. However, we do offer the True Writer Stub Nib Fountain Pen.

It sounds like they are awaiting your response, Brent. ;) I'm not positive about this, but I believe that Levenger had a very short run of stub nibs in order to see how they would be received by the marketplace.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
