Question? I went into a pen store today to see if they sell an extra fine nib for my Cross Apogee. The one I currently use is a fine, I think; it writes a little thicker than I like for what I'm using it for. Anyway, the guy told me that Cross doesn't make an XF nib. Is this true, and if so, what options do I have for getting an XF nib that will work with my Cross? Help?

Cross makes an XF on the Solo. And it is SWEET!!! More like a Japanese XF. The best part is that the pen can be had for less that $10 (got mine on ebay).

 

Don't know if it will fit the Apogee.

On Cross's website there are Apogees for sale with the choice of an XF nib. You can call Cross and see how much it is to get your nib switched, or you can also have your nib reground to an XF by any number of people who do this. Best of luck!

You're certainly welcome! I am in the same boat, having ordered a discontinued Century II FP for my brother. The site only had a medium left and of course he prefers an F or XF like me. Since it's his first FP, I want it to suit his writing as best as possible. Hope your response from Cross is positive--I'd be interested to know what they say. :thumbup:

You can also buy the nib section through Cross's website here: http://www.cross.com/customerservice/repla...placement+Parts

 

Under the Customer Service link and then to Replacement parts and then to nibs. So, you can even buy a replacement gold nib for your steel nib. The entire section/nib assembly is the replacement part, so as along as you buy the correct model (Century II, Townsend, Verve, etc.), it should fit your pen.

I use a fountain pen because one ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to write a few reasonable words with a fountain pen.

This is a helluva good thing to hear, thanks! I was thinking I'd have to get the nib reground, maybe I won't have to after all. :thumbup:

That makes me feel a lot better, because I was looking around for a nib that might work, and they were pretty expensive. I will call them and see if I can get the same deal for me. Thanks for the info. By the way, how are you liking it with an XF point?

Thank you so much. I'm glad that option is there, so I can get other nibs in future if I don't like the width on the two pens I just bought.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
