Baystate Blue Ruined My Yellow Lamy

Sam, I don't think 1937w was specifically referring to you or calling you ignorant. I believe the reference was made in the context of an underlying annoyance with the truly astounding warnings commonly found on products today--warning like those on a chicken pot pie that is to be cooked in a 400F oven for 30 minutes and then a warning that "This product may be hot!" Such warnings seem idiotic to many people (myself included) and I think this thread is uncovering a lot of pent up anger at product labeling in general.

Go back and read my first post, and post #91 with additional photos, and stop with the personal insulting language, and making irrelevant comparisons that do not apply to this specific situation.

I agree. Also read the post from the pen maker who stained some of his blanks with the ink. I think people are getting off track. I'm a novice on here, too, and appreciate seeing this post. From reading on here, most black and blue inks are considered safest for fountain pens...when a blue goes and stains the heck out of certain plastics, it's nice to be made aware.

My bottle is on order. I'll just make sure to use it only on dark or metal pens.

Firstly, the red/purple inks that stain barrels take more than a minute or two to do their damage. However, Sam claims that his Lamy was stained quite quickly.

Secondly, and more importantly, is BSB easily flushed from FPs when one wishes to change inks? If not, there is a considerable risk of causing precipitates if the remaining BSB mixes with a more acidic ink.

Lastly, although everyone says "all inks stain, that's what they are designed to do", Nathan states:

"I'll also note how certain of the very same inks that rinse so quickly out of paper do NOT rinse quickly off plastic - test them on plastic sheets for yourself. This has always struck me as idiotic. Ink should be very durable once on paper, and rinse off plastic. Test it on sheet plastic...apply some on plastic from all brands and let it sit in the sun - then spray the sheets with a garden hose. Try sheet rubber as well. "

captnemo...I realize you were attempting to "calm the waters"--however, to me it's easy to see why Sam felt offended--again! In general, folks may be annoyed with some of the seemingly absurd warnings on various products today, but this thread is not about those various products.

My co-mods & I agreed that Sam had a right to be disappointed in Nathan's response, not to mention upset about his pen.

I believe folks have had plenty of time, now, to put their 2 cents in and I don't think all 11,000 plus members need to weigh in, so I am closing the thread, at least until I see if my co-mods think further input would be particularly illuminating or desirable. I do believe we all--including Sam--think that Nathan has been of great service to the FP community.

I personally think that a statement such as I'm quoting from post #99, "I love this ink!!! It should be labeled: "Approved by FPN for bullet-proof writing on yellow plastic and fake marble" was not the best possible thing to say...

Best, Ann

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
