Gold-plated desk-accessory set.

Tomorrow I intend to drop by the Melbourne writing-instrument establishment known as Tafts, located on 259 Collins Street where it has been since 1912.

Not knowing a single thing about this place, I decided to look at their website (www.tafts.com.au)

I found this:

The entire set is available either in gold or chrome plate. It includes...

- A rocker-blotter.

- Desk-lamp.

- Inkwell.

- Pen-caddy.

- Two pen pen-rest.

- Paper-knife.

- Paper-pad holder.

- Business-card holder.

- Stapler.

- Desk clock.

How many of you would love to have all that sitting on your desk!? Put up your hand!

*Raises hand*

I reckon that Tafts has lost a bit of its magic since Rob sold the business about 10 (?) years ago.

Pen City owned by a former long time Tafts employee is a better store now with a bigger range of pens and notebooks, leather etc. Call in and see John . You won't be disappointed..

Pen City

250 Elizabeth Street

Its only a five minute walk from Tafts.

Tafts, Pen Place & Pen City are all within a few blocks of each other. I may end up visiting all three. I want to buy ink and I also want to buy a few books, too.

Is Tafts on the north or south side of Collins Street?

South side - look for the pedestrian crossing - its virtually at their front door. They are between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets. Then walk to Elizabeth St (50mtrs) turn right and one and a half blocks along is the Pen Place. Pen Place has real atmosphere.

Doh! My directions to the Pen Place are actually directions to Pen City - which is my favourite pen shop. If you only have time to visit one then Pen City is the go.

Oh no nonononono! :)

Tomorrow is PEN DAY. I am going out to Pen City, Pen Place and Tafts to have a look around at ALL THREE. I've got the entire day to burn, so I may as well enjoy myself. I want to buy some ink and some books and perhaps some paper and whatever else there is that might be interesting.

Which of the three shops is the best to go for ink, in terms of price? I've only ever dropped by at the Pen Place where I bought one bottle of Parker Quink (That bottle has since been severely depleted, what with NINE nibs to feed), and I'm looking to buy some more. Both black & blue-black.

Go to Pen City and ask for John - tell him Pete from 3AW sent you. He will look after you. Biggest range of ink, and you'll find the cheapest.

Well I'm back from my day out on the town. I did stop in at Pen City. I bought a converter there for one of my pens. Cost me a neat $8. I left with the converter and a nice advertising-blotter. That place is very interesting.

I stumbled into Tafts on Collins Street. How the hell I found it, I don't know. I almost walked right past it! If I didn't happen to glance down the alleyway, I would never have seen the sign above the doorway. Headed in and bought two bottles of ink. The desk-set (see above) is definitely there. It was set up in this wonderful display case. It is indeed both gold or chrome, depending on your choice.

Lastly, I stopped in at the Pen Place and bought more ink. I seem to be using so much of it lately!!
